Has anyone had the Audi Music Interface retro fitted onto their R8?
If so how much did your dealer charge, and does anyone know whether it is compatible with the iPhone as well as iPods?

We are fitting one tomorrow. It will stream music, podcasts, etc., but not video content. Compatible with iPhone, iPod, iTouch, etc.
We charge $700USD for the unit, plus $75 for install.
Will report back results once it's in!

All plug and play with a bit of Vagcom recoding.
If you want a real ipod interface add the Alpine KCE 425i interface together with the Kufatec MMI and you will have full ipod control from the head unit together with full iPod menus including album art.
Gareth at Hazzy Dayz in the UK is the man for these .
I thought it was possible to get the official Audi interface retro-fitted allowing full steering control access off playlists/songs etc.
Has anyone had this installed, as don't reallt want to go down the 3rd party install route.

Davey Dee is right. We put an '09 V8 and a '10 V10 together and the connectors, bracket and faceplate are all different. We are looking at what is required for harness changes (pins, etc.) but it doesn't look to be the direct swap that jackal suggested.
On a side note, swapping the head units also appears to be a bit more involved than we originally expected. Some additional components are required and a bit of basic functionality is lost in the process. Not a deal-breaker, but not exactly the 100% OEM solution we were expecting...

Why would Audi make things so difficult? They should have known when the R8 first came out that ipods were popular, especially with folks that have a little extra disposible income and even if a connector was not available right away, at least wire the unit for easy future upgrades. Between this issue and the bluetooth/iphone atomic-ring problem, I'm leaning towards having a third party system installed rather than some chopped up Audi solution and keep the original unit for the future in case I sell the car and the new owner wants the OEM look.

Rich - Josh sent me a quote for the NAV update but it sounds like your still finalizing the swap details? I think there are a lot of us just monitoring these threads, waiting, until something solid comes up for a new 2010 NAV swap & A MI install.

The 2010 NAV is plug and play on a '09 car. Did the swap on my car this week. Everything works but the backup camera right now, and that will be fixed once I get a 2010 camera module on Monday.
The only thing that still has some question marks is replacing the cd changer with an AMI unit, but that should be sorted out by Rich in no time
