    Car bra film protection?

Are there any old threads about getting the film protection bar thing? Anyone get it for their R8? Deciding whether to get it, esp for the front of the cf sideblades...

Search is your friend. There are many threads regarding paint protection film from 3M and others. There are some people on this forum that have a great deal of film on their cars.

I heard there were some new products that were shown at SEMA show that looked much better than the current products. It had much less texture/distortion. The quality of the installer but mostly the prep work does make a big difference.

Whatever you do, make sure it's put on right. Dealer put mine on and missed a spot on the A-Pillar and wouldn't you know that's exactly where I got a chip.

Installer prep is key with this stuff. It works very well, its just kind of expensive and needs to be installed by someone with a lot of experience.

Thanks for the posts, guys. I found the threads very helpful.

Seems general consensus is: 1) do the whole hood so no line shows, 2) consider leading edges or all of the sideblades, 3) black paint is harder to protect than lighter colors, 4) installer, not the film, is the most important consideration.

I'd like to report to the group that I had my car's clear paint protection film done by Premier in Orange County, California this week.

My initial clear bra was done with 3M film with all pre-cut pieces (from the generic computer templates the film guys get from their supplier) by an outfit I knew from the local airport (this film is used on aircraft, too). It has been on the car for about 18 months. While it provided good protection, the appearance left a lot to be desired, as with a cursory look you could see the lines at the edges of the film. And I wanted more coverage, as I'd only done the front of the car and half the hood.

Premier recommended we use the Venture Shield film. [Edit: I should mention that they told me only Venture has 60" rolls available. This is needed to do the entire hood without any seams.] I had them cover the entire front (bumper, plate holder, and headlights), mirror caps and pods (stalks), full hood (1 piece), A-pillars, full roof, rocker panels, wheel well arches (inner quarter panels) front and rear, leading edge of the CF side blades, and the aluminum inserts in the door sills.

I picked up the car last night and couldn't be more pleased. I'd post pictures, but there is really nothing to see. All edges are wrapped, necessary seams are carefully hidden and disguised, and the fins are carefully cut-in.

I have no affiliation with Premier. I just wanted to report on a very satisfactory experience. If you are in their service area and would like a quote, speak with Kris at (714) 628-0100. www.premiermobilegroup.com

If you'd like to see the results on my car I plan on being at Mulholland, or you can PM me and we can get together.
