B&O upgrade??

Hello guys.
I'm looking at buying a six months old V8 R8.
I've found a couple that I like, but dont have the B&O audio upgrade...
I was wondering what you all think of it?
Is it worth looking for one with it or spend the money saved in a specialist audio store?
Any feed back would be appreicated!

I was debating this once also. But i found a car that actually had the B&O system built in. I would rather not have had someone rip out the whole interior to work on the audio system, especially in a car like this.

I've donethis in the past with my previous cars, always had slight problems here and there. Sound wise, i think if you went the aftermarket route that the sound would be better.

If you do a search on this forum about the B&O system, you will find that it is ok, not great. It is better than the stock stereo, but aftermarket is better. The nice thing about the B&O is that it is all stock and everything works as it was planned. The rear camera is nice and I am not sure if the aftermarket would still have the moving lines as the original. The R8 has a very limited interior and it is hard to get great sound from the speakers.

We have retrofitted an R8-specific system from Reus Audio into a non-B&O vehicle and it blows away the factory upgrade. Non-intrusive system with fantastic sound and range.

Do you know what speakers and size they used?
I did find on the net someone who used "Focal K2 Power 3 way" set up all installed behind the OE grills, I know these speakers very well and how well they will work.

I have the B&O and it is not impressive. I have not listened to the non-B&O system so I can not provide a comparison. You will get better "bang for your buck" from a quality aftermarket installation in my opinion. I have added aftermarket systems to several vehicles and they have outperformed any factory system I have experienced.

I've spent an hour listening different kinds of music into two R8. One car had the B&O system, the other did not. Frankly speaking, to me, the B&O speakers do not provide significant better performance than the standard Audi sound system. As the inside volume available is small anyway, you can't expect miracles. Adding two rear aftermarket quality speakers would certainly provide a good compromise; if anyone can provide experienced model and brand, I'll be happy. Is precabling installed, even if no rear speakers ? Don't know.
But true to say that having a B&O logo somewhere on your dashboard is "chic"...

I agree. I have the B&O system and it's fine for in a car but that's it.

Music and Hi-Fi is one of my hobbies (second only to cars) You just can not get true high quality reproduction of music in a car especially one with such a small cabin air volume.

Amazing quality music is for in your house, music in a car doesn't need to be amazing, it just has to be 'good enough'

I am fond of the B&O. Listen at full volume sometimes.-so a little more power would be appreciated. I just love the sound system in the car. The fader works in reverse, I think. For Max. performance the levels need to be adjusted according to the style of music too. If I was upgrading the R8 I would probably not go with the B&O. There is better stuff out there.
