Post DON'T try this at home...

Been averaging one speeding ticket per month lately. 181.50 a pop. No points go on record because its' Arizona. Darned photo enforcement zones in Az. get me everytime. Maybe it's time for a radar ...could have paid for ITSELF already. This behavior has got to stop. I am NOT proud of getting these letters in the mail - every month. Secretary always says I paid that one, not knowing we have a new one. Probably another on the way!!

That's what happens when you have such a great car 1 a month and no points, isn't it worth it

Get yourself a good laser/radar unit. Some of them have a GPS and has a list of fixed photo sites. Unfortunately they do have movable photo units too and you just need to be aware. I have looked at the Escort 9500ci. It is pricey, but a lot of people swear by it.

I failed to mention - all tickets in 'da truck. None-zero, speed tickets in the R 8. I may go get one on the way to Tubac?? A funny, poor resolution PHOTO ? Naw not worth it.

I thought I was pretty aware, at least more aware here in Cali. Az. has these things all over the place now. Extra Christmas money is of the utmost importance there (Saves lives too I hope). CHP is also everywhere. You shift your eyes to see the scenery and boom, you have entered another photo enforcement zone. Time to get wired up with SDR8S recommendo. Whoa, the 9500ci is pricey and compared to a Veyron. Maybe Santa will bring me one.

If your car is registered in CAL, then take off your front plate while in AZ. That eliminates one photo side. And then on the rear, put one of those clear covers that makes a photo too blurry. These work in either day or night,..I forget,.. but not both. Still a benefit. And very very cheap.

Cool Re: DON'T try this at home...

Front plate already off. Hmm... it is a 4x4, so maybe a little mud? Might try this. Now that I think harder, sometimes I have a trailer on back that makes me invisible. The plate for the trailer fell off last year!

Re: DON'T try this at home...

Harry - if these are photo enforcement tickets from the mobile SUVs, a radar detector is not going to help you because they use very low powered guns. I'm using a 9500ix and every time I hit one, the Escort sounds off just as you see the yellow or orange "Photo Enforcement Zone Ahead" signs. I have noticed there are 2 flavors, some use K band and others use Ka band. BTW, all mobile & fixed radar units take 2 pics - one front and back. AZ does not issue a plate for the front. The first flash from the front is to record an image of the driver (and you are using the one finger salute as you roll by, right?). The second pics up the rear plate as you motor by. If you're getting the tickets up PHX way, you're blowing by the fixed units. This is where the Escort 9500 does help. It has a database of "most" speed cams and warns you about a half mile ahead (the 9500 has a GPS receiver and is constantly checking a reference database for lat/Lon coordinates of these fixed speed cams). I did find 2 in Show Low AZ that were NOT in the Escort DB. I turned them in to Escort and the next update included AZ so I think they added them.

I like the Escort 9500ix because I can move it from car to car. During my last service, I had Audi hardwire a cable to the passenger sunvisor so I just mount the detector on a clip. Works great and when not in use the pigtail is hidden under the visor.

PM me for more tips. Tucson posts the daily mobile van locations, the Highway Patrol & DPS might too. P

You could always resort to this as soon as you cross the Colorado River...
Or is this you??? Oh, probably not - not a Hummer!

Re: DON'T try this at home...

Harrison.... I feel your pain. I have way too much experience with these photo radar tickets myself. My tip is don't pay them unless you are served (this is straight from my lawyer and most everyone else in AZ that has looked into the legality of it.) Unless they serve you in person, there is nothing they can do. I have been served twice by the way. You have to pay them at that point or they will suspend your license. But currently I have 3 photo radar tickets from this summer. I am not home much so if they have tried to serve me they couldn't. I haven't paid them and there is nothing on record about them either. BTW they can also serve anyone at your house that is over 18 so watch out.

AZ recently made it illegal to have the plastic "shields" over your rear plate as well. The police will actually pull you over and write you a citation for having one now.

Radar detectors aren't of much use either. Like R84ME said, you dont get enough of a warning to do any good.

    Good luck with those tickets!!!
Funny...like you I haven't gotten them in my R8 just y Z06 and my Tahoe
