    Question Moonroof

In my opinion, the R8 should have a moonroof, at least as an available option for those who want it.

As far as I can tell, the subject of a moonroof in the R8 has been primarily discussed in only one other thread ("Targa or Moonroof possible?"). I'm not so much interested in a debate over whether a moonroof belongs in this car. Here's what I want to know:
Does anyone have any reliable information, either way, on whether Audi plans to add a moonroof to the R8?

    Re: Moonroof

probably not, the structual rigity of the car wouldnt allow it, the car would have to have the same underpining of the convertable plus the added weight of the moon roof.....it would weigh too much and wont be as dynamic to drive, and for the price 9 out of 10 people would probably opt for the convertable since they will probably cost the same, the moon roof is a nice idea but wont realy apeal to many people....best example is porsche's targa, most either go for a vert. or the coupe

I know that another factor in deciding not to offer the moon/sun roof is that you sacrifice alot of head room/clearance (at least I know this is why it is not offered in my XKR).

Between the additional weight and the reduced headroom, I think this won't be on the option list anytime soon...

I'd never get it. Ask the GT3 owners what they think of that idea.

    Angry Re: Moonroof

The Spyder is Audis' version of the Moon/sun roof ! The R 8 chassis is plenty stiff, it has been commented. Do the GT3s complain of body twist? The porsche Metal sunroof is available on the GT3? You could call the sunfoof on a 911 Turbo with whale tail , a "BLOWHOLE". You would have only one choice moon-roof, -a spoiler type such as the Webasto product. Which actually gives more headroom. So far the Webasto is the only moon roof that could POSSIBLY look right on the r8 coupe. There just is no room for a conventional moonroof because there is nowhere for the panel to hide/retreat to !!

    Re: Moonroof

Not all moonroofs slide; some just tilt.

Obviously, for a person who wants a true open-air drive, a convertible is the way to go. That's not me, though. I like what a moonroof does to the interior of a car. It adds more light and provides a more roomy feel. And, when open (either slid or tilted), there is a little more fresh air inside without the wind blowing all about.

To each his own. I'd just like the option. And I'd put off an R8 purchase if I knew it were in the works for a later model year.
