    Lightbulb Ferrari F1-40 m.s.new F430 60m.s.R 8 ??

How quick does the R-tronic do a shift? I see Davey D doesn't log in anymore , but how could he resist not coming back to read more? He is probably alredy here under a new name.but which ?? His damage continues.

Hmm I've been wondering this my self, I remember in my big R8 book (the silver one that comes with the letter to the R8 owner ) I think it said something about the R8 'only breaking traction for 90 ms' during shifts(I may be quoting wrongly but I'm sure traction was mentioned). Also I'm not sure if this figure represents the entire gear change time anyway.

But I'd be very interested to find out too

Easy to spot, you'll say something innocuous and his reply will be like 'noodling a lemon shark' ;-)

Good question. Prepare for a useless answer....

I tried to find the same thing a few months ago. It is not easy to find, but I think if found it in an old review somewhere. I wonder if the new R-tronic is faster? By the way, a 40ms MT shift is unbelieveable, even if it is automated.

I'd also like to know how fast a decent driver shifts with a MT. Not power shifting, but a typical road race shift. I could never find that.

    I'm qualified to answer.

I owned a 430 F1 for three weeks this fall, then replaced it with a 16M. Today, I test drove a flappy paddle R8 V10 ith 1600 kms.

The 2005 430 was a horrid pig. I could bed, murder, dispose of a hooker and smoke a cigaret between shifts.

The 16M is brilliantly fast, but shift speed depends on the manetino setting, throttle input and whether the car is warmed up.

The R8 that I drove today was almost as fast, far better than the smg on my former M5 and M6. At its best, it's almost as fast the 16M, but not as brutal.

Yesterday, I was convinced to buy a 6speed. Today, I'm convinced I want the paddle shifting one.

Great. Thanks for confusing me again.

By the way, I see you have a CGT on your list. Good luck topping that car. Can I come over?

There is no topping that car. I sold the first one I had and immediately regretted it. I wouldn't trade it for an Enzo.

Can I come over? Anytime. Bring booze or cuban cigars.

weird - I had an m6 and the r-tronic feels very similar to the faster shift programs in that which makes sense given they're both single clutch unlike the 16m which is dual clutch. they must have sprinkled fairy dust on the v10 for a single clutch to get anywhere near the feel of a dual.

If you're in MI, can I come too?

I've really been wanting a CGT lately. At around $300K, I'm really liking it. I'm just a bit concerned with costs of running (see: $20K clutch jobs.) While I don't think I abuse my cars whatsoever, I think I'd drive the car too much and lose my shirt in depreciation and maintenance. Though it seems to me that 'abusing' and 'cgt' do not go safely hand in hand. Wicked bite from what I hear.

Did you ever just go find a big parking lot or skid pad to test the limits before really getting on it?
