    Silver CF Sideblades

John @ MACarbon sent me a couple samples of the silver CF, thinking about silver blades. The matt finish is too flat, IMO. They do look a little yellow in indirect light but that might be the angles/curves of the map pocket sample? When you get a little light on them, WoW! What do you think about the glossy?

    $$$ !!!

Hey R84ME, is it possible to get a shot of it up against your car from a distance?

Would you guys opt for the V 10 blade? Silver does have its possibilities. I am a convert to silver --Again.

To the OP: I like it - it looks exotic.

No. I much prefer the cleaner look of the 8 cyl one.

Not a chance. They look like an add-on that someone with a slammed Honda would buy compared to the V8's blades. The flow of the side of the car is torn up by the gaping extension.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I believe that the fabric in the blades is not carbon, but aluminized fibre glass. There may be carbon underneath, but I have yet to see aluminized carbon. It is cool looking, though. Not knocking it one bit.

    Black fiberglass:

Odd - the link to the aluminized glass ends up taking me to the same link with the pic above. I wonder if they carry it anymore?

    Ah, Here's a pic

There are colored Kevlar/Carbon fabrics available - I've used the blue stuff on a couple projects.

    Re: Silver CF Sideblades

Actually, John said the silver "carbon fiber" wrap is made of nylon. I know everyone prefers black CF blades but I didn't order them because I don't care for the high contrast (dark/light). The silver is very nice but I'm thinking a whole blade of it might be too much. Too bright. Too much contrast in just the opposite way (bright/light).

Hmmm.... $ for $, maybe it's time for EVOMS VFlow & software instead...

Still wearing sandals and shorts? Don't you know it's December? JK, it's upper 70's here too.

The Silver CF blades would definitely be different. Would you consider other items to go with it, like mirrors or interior pieces? You could really spend a lot if you wanted to go with all the items in silver. It is nice to see that they are willing to offer custom products.

    Re: Silver CF Sideblades

I've been speaking to R84ME for a few weeks on the silver blade project. Its true silver carbon fiber is not carbon. It is aluminized nylon as I told R84ME upfront. Silver CF is just the street name for the material.

Silver CF I think would be very cool looking on a silver car. It looks good on the Audi show car. I would be interested to see some pictures of the matte sample I sent R84ME as the gloss silver is very bright. The Audi show car seems to have a semi-gloss finish.

As for cost, it would be similar to what Audi is currently charging for black blades. Silver CF is hard to work with (harder than real CF) and to get the result that a R8 owner (and us) would be happy with, that is the price point at which the project is interesting. If anyone is interested please feel free to PM me or give us a call. We'd also be interested in purchasing a set of take-off blades if anyone has them sitting around.
