    Battery Tender Question

    Hey Guys,
i have a question and hopefully some of you guys can help. Since the car is stored, I'm gonna be using the Battery Tender Plus to keep the battery charged for when its ready to go in the spring. Since I have a cover for the car, i run into a little problem.

I can close the hood, but I'm concerned that the hood will pinch the wires going into the trunk. I can somewhat close it and not completely click it down, but then the trunk light is on (i guess I can disable this).

    What are your thoughts?

    Re: Battery Tender Question

The main place where the hood meets the chassis is the rubber lip around the trunk area. The wire won't be pinched.

Even if it was pinched, it would be very light and wouldn't destroy the wire or the wire's jacket.

I believe that the car automatically turns off all lights after 15 minutes anyhow.

Don't worry about it. I closed the trunk lid on the wires from my battery tender last winter .... six weeks later there was no permanent effect on the rubber gasket.

    Re: Battery Tender Question

I snaked a cable through my trunk for the same purpose for FOUR months last winter and there were no issues. The trunk was completely closed. Now I am back doing that again I use the Audi cover to cover the car in storgage.

    Re: Battery Tender Question

Is a battery tender ok to use on this car? I thought you should use a particular type, like the fairly expensive Audi version.

Many are using the battery tender with no ill effects. I have the "Junior" model, less LEDs, bells and whistles but accomplishes the same thing.

Thanks for the responses.. KfabR8, you're right the light does go out. So if i really didn't trust the pinching thing, i can always not close it completely.

I also am using the junior now, since the Plus cable length wasn't long enough (put that back on the other car).

Perfectly acceptable and recommended provided you use an intelligent one that cycles on and off to keep the battery up without overcharging it.

The most popular models are made by CTEK. The most convenient are those that plug into the cig. lighter.

Canadians can get them on sale from time to time at Can. Tire. (please, no 'crappy tire' jokes - I own one)
