    Pirellis and punctures?

Are P-Zeros more susceptible to punctures or am I just unlucky?

After a blow out last Thursday week of one of my fronts I got a puncture in the rear yesterday. Talk about lightening striking twice!!

Now I know the compound of the tyres is soft to assist handling but was interested to know if that made them more likely to get puntured?

Thanks.... I guess the new house being built up the road means likelihood of all sorts of crap on the road so I think I'll change my direction for the time being

I've had one in 11k miles, in the OSR but I blamed my sons for leaving screws on the drive after 'fettling' (ruining IMO) their cars... Out of interest the suggested I replace the pair as they had had problems with the mismatched stagger.

I've had one in 18k miles - I'm adamant it was a slow puncture from new but the dealer said they found a screw in the tyre and repaired it for less than £5.

Guess I'm just unlucky!! The old tyres have only done 3K miles so won't need to put 2 on.... not at £300 a pop!!!

Gary, i had one puncture on each of the two R8's i had, the first one was because i ran over a brick so not the tyres fault, the second car had one at around 3k, as the screw that punctured it was on the edge of tyre wall and tread they would not repair it so cost two new tyres as they said it wasnt a good idea to put a new tyre paired with a 50% worn one?, i do usually take out tyre insurance but didnt on this car

However, i must say the P Z's do seem to wear quickly at the edges ( may have something to do with 4 laps of the Ring ) good tyres otherwise though

Cheers - never heard of tyre insurance! Where did you get that, and how much?

    Re: Pirellis and punctures?

I've had a couple of punctures in the drivers side rear, and from reading the forum it seems these tyres are more susceptible to punctures.

I'm adamant it was a slow puncture from new but the dealer said they found a screw in the tyre and repaired it for less than £5.
this is interesting because my dealer said punctures can't be repaired in them and the tyres need replacing due to their structural integrity at speed. given I like to replace both tyres on the same axle it has got a little expensive on rubber so far...

    Gary,

Tyre insurance first came to light when I bought my Wife’s BMW X5, then had it again on her X6, it’s on a long list of insurance they try to sell you, we are picking up her new X6 today and have taken that option again as it has paid off due to my wife liking to hit kerbs! I think Audi insurance may offer similar policy’s, ask your broker who should be able to help.

Got 4" snow here, MikeB picked his V10 from my car park yesterday and it behaved remarkably well getting off the snow covered tarmac, far better than my Wife’s X6 anyway!

Cheers for the replies chaps. Interestingly the pressure refuses to go lower than 30 from a fully inflated 36!!! Very strange!

    Re: Pirellis and punctures?

Now's the time to ditch the bricks (P-zeros) and put PS2's on it!

I suffered from a nail about 2K into owning mine. Fortunately it was on the tread surface, not near the shoulder or sidewall, so they were able to do a vulcanized patch on the inside.

I'd not had the wheels off the car yet at that time and as I pulled the flat left rear wheel off the car, I was amazed at just how much wheel (width) is tucked away under the fender. More and more of it just kept coming out!
