Cool R8 V8 Faults - Anyone else? Read in :)

    Hey,

Just a few thing's I've experienced just wondering if anyone else has had same issues.

1 - Window always covered in lubricant after putting the window then, then back up. Best way to resolve this? (It's ridiculously annoying!)

2 - Rotor's, I know all rotor's rust, but you you guys find that the R8 ones rust alot more then usual.. now every time I drive, after cleaning the car, I get rust juice all over the wheels! Anyone else has this issue?

3 - R-Tronic stalling? It happened to me a few times now, at the lights, and pulling out of dealer. I pull my foot down a lil faster then usual and the car goes like a foot then stalls... again, only happened twice now.. but not sure if it's something to worry about?

4 - Audi Nappa Leather - Is it me or are they not very durable.. after 5K miles from 0 you start to see sign of the top layer of leather coming off (I make sure I do not wear jeans with rear badges on them which can scuff it..) Compared to Mercedes the leather is far to weak.. anyone else?

5 - R-Tronic gear changing - I had the car ECU upgraded to latest software a few months back and after that it changes faster then before, however it's aggressive and joilty.. unlike M3's EDC/ GTR R35's I know these have twin clutch, but the R8 still can be bit smoother no?

I look forward to you guys shedding some light

    Thanks
    Dan

There was a thread about the smearing on windows that were tinted, especially right after you washed the car. It seems like some people have gotten come cleaner or lotion on the inside of the glass and when they rolled down the windows, this substance got on the wipers/inside felt supports. I remember reading that one person had the dealer replace the dirty parts. I have been real careful when I am putting lotion on my door panels (windows down and a shield when I am by that area) and have had minor issues. Mainly, if I wash the car, the windows do not go down for a day (to let things dry).

My rotors sure look rusted right after I wash the car. As soon as I drive a little bit and use the brakes, it looks normal again. I keep my car in a garage and do not drive it when it is wet out, so my experience is a lot less than many others. They seem to rust very easy, much more than any other car I have had.

There have been several posts about the seats wearing quickly (especially side bolster from people rubbing on it as they entered or exited). I have around 7K miles on my R8 and have no problems with the leather. It is thinner and shows stretching more than my MB or BMWs. I have found that applying a good leather lotion to the seats every two-three weeks has helped to reduce these stretch lines. I am also very aware of how I get in the car and do not rub or spin in the seat when I enter or exit. I lift myself from the doorsill and center console and rotate in/out of the car.

I get the smear as well but just wipe the inside once the car has dried out and its not a problem until the next wash.

Rotors rust after a wash if i don't drive it straight away but they clean up after a short drive.

Leather lifted in mine and the dealer refitted and re stretched the leather under warranty.I have had no further problems.

There was a link on the window smearing. The solution was to have the dealer remove the door panel and wipe the excess grease off of the window mechanism. This solved the problem.

I have not had the rust issues. I drive the car in the rain and have never had a problem.

I have not had any issues with the R-Tronic stalling. I would take it back to the dealer and have the R8 mechanic go for a ride with you. I would also have him take a look at the leather. It is all covered under warranty if less than 4 years or 50K miles in the US.

I've only ever had the r-tronic stall once in the 20+ months I've had it -that was at full lock on a very steep incline from cold. restarted, gave it more gas and it was fine.

the rusting rotors thing doesn't seem any worse than I've had on previous cars.

No stall, rust or window lube but leather does look a little worn in spots.

Before i put my car away for the winter in early November I'd wash and waxed her and made sure the brake disc's were dry by high pressure air hose and by driving her up and down my drive with the brakes lightly applied so there was no rust showing and left off the hand brake for winter storage
then went to move her in mid december to access some christmas decorations and the brakes where welded on and she wouldn't move either forwards or in reverse as when i applied the power the electronic throttle kept cutting the power
after about 5 mins of puting it first and reverse and trying to rock the car backwards and forwards a bit the brakes released a bit and i managed to reverse her out of the garage to reveal bad rust pad marks on the discs
hopefully the discs will clean up ok when she comes out in the spring
Will let you know next week when the decorations go back to the garage if the brakes are weld on again ?

My drivers side window still smears after 2 years ?
