Is my AirCon kaput?

In this freezing weather I still get hot in the car so went to turn the aircon down to very low (as far as it would go) on Auto and it was throwing out warm air.

Is my system up the creek and maybe needing re-charging OR is there an external sensor telling it to stay warm as the external temp is at zero?

the heat exchanger could be iced up? I'll try it on mine on the way home tonight...

Never had a problem with mine (on a regular basis we get the sort of weather you are having!!).

Usually below about 4 degrees C the aircon compressor will not come on and the air will simply be heated and them mixed with fresh cold air drawn in from outside to give the temperature you have set ... so I don't think it is your aircon which is misbehaving but the temp sensor or mechanism which controls the mixing of warm air and the cold air.

Just thought I'd provide an update - in case anyone was interested. No? Oh never mind then...

Dealer called today to tell me the Aircon unit is totally knackered. Dealer has ordered a complete new unit for installation on Monday. All under warranty!

No. They just said it was "unrepairable" so a new entire unit would be installed. I guess it's more a case of "not feasible to fix economically" so might as well trash the entire unit - only 20 months old. But who knows. I'm just happy to get a nice, new, fresh out of the box, unit.

Lots of parts in the frame though, the ECU, compressor, condensor, rads etc. Hope you're back on the road soon!
