Third engine on my 4.2 R8 in 800 miles!!

Hi there, im new to his forum and thought i would see if any one else has had a similar issue with your engine coming from factory. I got my R8 in march and since then it has been nothing but trouble. There was a huge amount of dark smoke coming out the exhuasts after a few hundread miles and after taking it to Audi and lots of allegations being thrown around they realised the cylinder head some how was leaking oil into the camber and smoking like a diesel.

They changed that engine only to start the new engine up with a badly adjusted timing belt on and it blew itself up as the pistons hit the valves and pretty much just lots of mess and a broken engine.

After all this hassle they finally managed to get the next engine in right and now she is running fine. Shame it took an extra 2 engines and 3 months to put right! In the end I some compensation and was driving around in the v10 s6 until it was fixed but by god that was a nasty few month for getting a new car!

P.S.: If that’s oil leaking into chamber and them smoke will be white sure not black. Black smoke means rich mixture normally.
P.P.S.: New engine comes like one-piece item as far as I know. Nothing to do with timing belt adjustment during engine swap.

OP which country are you in?

I know that last year there was a batch of faulty engines - at my dealer in the UK one guy had 4 or more engines before a good one. The fault seems a one off.

That's nothing. My car completely disintegrated into hundreds of pieces a few weeks after I got it. Audi would do nothing until I hauled every single piece into their shop for analysis. They also did forensic analysis on all of my screw drivers and power drills to make sure that I didn't take the car apart myself. I now realize what a mistake it was to ever get involved with such a shady company to begin with.

How about you and I start a whole new message board so that we can support all the others who have been messed with by these guys? I will see if r8bitch.com is available. Thank god I am not alone anymore.

Im in the UK actually in Dorset like yourself, which garage was this? could of been my car?!

I will get some picture up later, its a purple/blue colour with silver side blanes, silver front splitter and silver rear diffuser, also silver mirrors, all OEM but slightly unique.

I agree, Audi do tend to blame every one apart from themselves. I got told it was due to over reving the car when it was new! They dont like to be percieved as anything other than perfect but the reality is they cant give you one of the most expensive and prestigous audi's without it having issues from the beggining of ownership!

I had my front differential go out. Audi could not have been better. They flew in a new diff from Germany and I had my car back in four days.

I think a contact name and identify the dealer would help with the credibility of this thread.

I don't think you detected the sarcasm practically oozing from that post. The manual does indicate that there's a break in period though.
