    R-Tronic driving tips

Any helpful tips for the r-tronic. I know when accelerating to use the paddle, but when reducing speed to stop at an upcoming red light do I just brake.

Also when stopped the car goes into neutral? Make sure to press brake and then put it in first?

    Apologize for the newb questions

    Hi,

Treat it just as you would any 'normal' manual box.

As you come to a halt just change into neutral. When you are ready to go change into first and go!

Whether you change down as you slow or just brake depends on speed and on road conditions.

Just think of it as a manual (which it is of course)
    Regards, Graham.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG!! ! READ your manual.ONLY 43 miles?? I know you can't resist driving right now...YOU WILL REAP REWARDS OF INFO FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL. I have an auto too and just learned a new trick. But first, get your settings right. Are you agressive or lacadaisal (real mellow?) ...and Location,Location,Location--important in real-estate.AND in your PROFILE. Anyways...Always stay in SPORT MODE,unless taking Grandma for groceries. Mag ride on as much as possible, to keep that system working away to keep you safer in abrubt manuevers, check your tire pressures, use paddles or Stick ALWAYS. Your R8 doesn't want to be in auto. It is like a race-horse that wants to RUN. WARM YOUR TIRES. Stay in command as much as possible. This trick is for city driving. Down shift only to SECOND gear, about 15-20 MPH (U.S.term) and click shifter to right and into neutral and back to left and coast to stop. The engine will sound real nice too. Then before traffic resumes apply brake and push stick foward into manual 1st gear and take-off. Confused? Experienced R8ers will know what I mean. Later I'll try to incorporate the paddles into this. TRY IT, YOU"LL LIKE IT. And it is easy on the car. The car will like it.

I always giggle when I hear "auto". That gearbox is as close to an automatic transmission as the Great Pyramid of Egypt is to "a building". It's a hydraulically activated manual gearbox. Most people refer to the same thing in a Ferrari as an F1 Gearbox. Yes it has an automatic mode, that virtually no one uses. But still, it's not your basic automatic transmission with added paddle shifters.

And amazingly, the Audi sales people refer to it as "the automatic" also. Jeesh!
