Front License Plate + Grille

Hey Guys,
since I imported the car, it looks like I need a front license plate holder. The cost is about $1000 installed. I'm thinking of removing the front bracket and epoxying some rare earth magnets on back and will do so on the plates.

Does anyone have an idea of how to remove the front grill?, since I believe this is the only way to remove that bracket.

Never seen it removed and don't know how, only person I know who's had it removed is Harrison, he'll tune in later I guess At least I think he's had it removed

The bumper has to come off to get the grill out. There are 12+/- screws that hold the grill on from the back...

3M makes a reclosable fastener for industrial use. It is a super high-performance version of Velcro. Do not think of it as regular Velco. You can find it at high-end industrial supply houses or on 3M's website. You may be able to find it at Home Depot, but not the highest performance stuff. I use these reclosable fasteners in my company to adhere signs.

Yes the whole front bumper has to come off. Many here have had it removed. I am just one of the few who did it themselves.There were NOT the usual fastening locations for my PPI grill. No instructions at the time...A bit of a nitemare. But well worth the effort and monies. A helper should assist you as it is a clumbsy piece. You don't want to scratch it. NOT a hard thing to do.

In my thread on fitting the Capristo exhaust the video also shows the front bumper coming off and on for the PPI bits they fitted to that car.

I just took the front bumper off my S4 to fit a radar detector last weekend. I have a lift and it still took me the better part of a day to remove, install, and refit the bumper. I suspect the R8 procedure is similar, so this thread I used as a guide may help:

The lift helped a lot, but is not critical. Also, you don't have an inconveniently placed front engine in the way, so it may be quite a bit easier on the R8.

Another option that should be cheaper/easier than using a dealer is just having a good radar/stereo guy do it for you.
