when the v8 is fasterr than the v10

Don't shoot me I am just the messenger but I found this interesting.

Autocars lap times at their tracks.

    Dry track

    r8 5.2 = 1.13.0
r8 4.2 = 1.13.5 (track was wet though so in effect v8 is faster)

    wet track

    r8 5.2 = 1.09.8
    r8 4.2 = 1.08.2

Both the wet times slower than the rs4 and the rs6 (which is the fastest car on their wet track)

    top gear......
    Audi R8 V10 1.21.6
    Audi R8 1.24.4

might be that the car is slow in the wet ....trackion ist 85% in the rear not like the other quattros 50/50 plus 305 in the rear is not really what makes it easier to handle on the wet tarmac

    Autozeitung Testrack

    1'37.5 for the V10
    1'39.8 for the V8

(R8).. slower than the rs4 and the rs6
It's just the reality of hi performance sportscars.

The wet is NOT what these cars are about.

I agree with Bodhii, having driven my daily for 12,000 miles in nearly a year, the biggest compromise, IMHO, is in heavy wet weather. Once you get standing water, you have to be really careful with those big rear tyres. Not unique to the R8.

I had a HUGE tankslapper on a two lane with a fairly innocuous looking run of standing water across it. Ever since then I have taken it eeeeaaasssier on that wet stuff. Looking out of the side window to see where you are going, while great fun when you are directing, is sphincter clench inducing if not ;-)
    Best Regards, Ian

I wonder if both R8 had the same tires and tread?

This is the reason that I spec'd the standard V8 wheels for my V10 rather than the optional V8 style high gloss or titanium finish, I didn't want the wider tyres!

295 or 305mm wide tyres with low profiles with max 8mm of tread Plus water = tendency to aquaplane. If you look at the vid, the wet handling track is continually watered so has standing water pretty much all the time.

Hmm, I don't understand this bit...

    Dry track

    r8 5.2 = 1.13.0
r8 4.2 = 1.13.5 (track was wet though so in effect v8 is faster)
How is it a dry track if it's wet OR is a dry track one that's not watered (apart from rain) and a wet track one that is?

I would love to put rain race tires and be racing in a TROPICAL wet daily. Better than racing once a month in the dry.
