    First drive of the year.

I took the R8 out for the first drive of the year today.

It was only 1C and she took a while to get the oil up to temp but drove great with no sign that she had been pretty much laid up for over 2 months.

I took delivery of a new BMW x5 last week and the technology on board makes the R8s gadgetry look antique but once you drive through the first few quick corners in the R8 nothing else matters
    Regards, Graham.

You lucky dog. It was 10 degrees F here this morning and my car is still in storage.

I also did the same this past weekend. But with a temperature of 4c.

LL, i really can't wait for my first full year with this thing come the spring. Getting excited just thinking about it! I've been even thinking about turning on the full insurance, it's been a very mild January.

No kidding. I don't expect to be out of storage until the beginning of April. I am north of you mngolpher, and am still trying to recover from that Vikings game on Sunday.

not to hate on Bret, since I really wanted the vikings to win. But that was Favre being Favre!

When your R8 is currently your only car, as it is for me, then this concept of storage and not driving does not compute!!!

Mines been out in snow and ice and everything in between over the past few weeks - even got some fun tail-out events!!!

    What a car!!!

I need a 4x4 next to add some practicality - although I have lived with just the R8 for 6 months now and it's not an issue!!!! Just glad I'm not doing any building DIY jobs at present

A while back I lived with a Ferrari 360 as my only car for a few months. I'm a practical sort of guy and always hauling stuff about so I was constantly borrowing friends 4x4s.

I have the R8 and an X5 now, I think its going to be the perfect combination.

(I have just read what I wrote, " lived with a Ferrari 360" We don't know how lucky we are sometimes do we)

Re: First drive of the year.

    Well if its any help I have sort of had all three;

I had the V10 diesel Toureg when it first came out, amazing engine, not that impressed with the rest of the car. I have just got rid of a LR D3 HSE which was IMHO a total pile of poo (unless you really need to drive over ploughed fields every day)

I have owned two old shape X5s, a 3d and a 4.8, both were great. Picked up a new X5 35d last week to replace the D3 and boy am I pleased to be back in an X5. I can take all the 'school run mum' jokes, its a great car.
    Regards, Graham.

We got our second X6 a few weeks ago, the technology is far better than the first one which was 18 Months old, really great car but only a 4 seater, there are loads of X5's in the Lakes but only 2 X6's we have seen, got all the extras on too so it looks great, kids love watching TV in the back which gives her in doors a break too!

Cant wait for my R8 to arrive, fed up with the tempoary A4 saloon now!
