Hi,
I joined the forum this evening.
I am pulling the trigger on a used 2008 R8, black exterior and black interior.
Is this a desirable color combination? Why or why not?
Thanks!

I have a black / black R8 and it is just beautiful. If you go further and get black side blades (carbon?) they blend into the body and draw your eye to the shape of the car... Some people like the stealthy look.
That being said it requires more time to keep it nice. Mine is a weekend driver so I don't mind, in fact I enjoy, the care required.
I just traded in a Black '08 with Lava Grey sideblades in Chicago (beige interior) to order a V10. I went with the same exterior colors again but switched to a limestone gray interior.
While I think the R8 is a stunner of a design, there are some elements that are a little busy (especially with the added chrome insignia and silver louvers on the V10, which is why I moved to a gray interior to reduce the number of color pallettes at work). As the new car is going to Florida, I considered the white/silver combination, but the black swath across the rear of the V10 further accentuates an already very wide design and makes the rear end very busy, and the black bolts and hardware that are exposed when the wing goes up make the car look "unfinished". I think Black tames these problems best of all the colors.
I also think the black interior looks very sharp. While I liked the beige, it did show scuff marks on the bottom of the doors more. I put black floor mats in to keep carpet staining less apparent, and it worked well as the dash and upper door panels are black no matter what color the seats. The only reason I stayed away from a black interior on the new car is that it's going to be in south Florida where black seats can get really hot if the car sits in the sun. No so much an issue in Chicago.
I chose the Lava Grey sideblades because I've always been ambivalent about the sideblades as a design element. When they're done in body color, the car looks too slab-sided, but when done in high contrast the car looks broken in half. So I think the low-contrast colors work best, either Lava Grey or carbon fiber. They reduce the mass of the side without making the car look disjointed. My only hesitation about the carbon fiber is that if they get scratched or banged -- an even bigger issue with the flared blades of the V10 -- it's not an easy touch-up job.
By the way, you're going to love the car. After two years of driving mine mostly on Chicago's cratered streets, the body structure was still tight as a drum and entirely rattle free. It's a very rigid shell. (I've had almost new loaner Q7's a couple of times from the dealer, and I couldn't believe the contrast in structural integrity when I got back in the R8.)

I love my black and black, give the windows a tint and it looks mean. As MSWN says though, the colour is much less forgiving to dirt so it takes extra time to get the shine, but once it looks good, you are rockin!

Black/black is great, particularly w/carbon blades...

Black/Black w/ carbon blades. Awesome and looks mean. Just be prepared to wash it a lot.
I have black w/body color blades and window tint and black interior. Difficult to keep clean but definetly gives the car some serious attitude.
if you select ext. black better to have light color or brown or red interior
Black isn't a colour.
It's a full-time job.
