    Uv Potection Of Engine Compartment

I have been advised to install a CLEAR film that will protect the engine compartment from UV rays. The tech advised that over time UV rays will fade the carbon fiber and other non metallic things. Sounds like a good idea. Cost is about $100.00. Comments?

I wonder how much UV the rear glass already filters.

I suppose the answer is to look at other mid engine cars with glass covers and see if the plastics have faded.

A problem with film on that window is the heat from the engine. You also get more dirt or oils that blow up on that window. The tint scratches too easy and I wonder if the heat would change the color or adhesion of the film. I thought about it too, but my installer did not like the idea.

Unless it has been specially treated, auto glass blocks most UV-B radiation but not UV-A radiation.

Changeable tint eyeglasses will not darken behind auto glass, but skin damage (and probably some damage even to modern UV-resistant car materials) can occur through the glass.

As an aside, the carbon on some RS4's went yellow .... and that is out of sun light ....

Mine was absolutely fine ... but then I use to clean my car which may be the answer.

To play safe, I would just put a good quality wax on the areas you are concerned about, that should sort it.

I'm in Chicago right now but will soon be living in Naples, Florida most of the year. The V10 I've ordered will be driven down there in the strong south Florida sunshine, which is why I've been researching fading issues.

I think Andyuk911's suggestion makes sense. Just be sure to choose a product that blocks UV and holds up to high heat, which probably means one of the synthetic polymers.

Well, I did get caught by a state trooper last year cruising at 106 mph in my V8. I thought I was about to visit somebody's prison.
