Does Audi feel bad for me???

I have been on the list to get my V10 since last July with 5 people in front of me. Needless to say my order went in last November and has been pushed back. Today I received a nice package with a mini aluminum R8 and a calendar by Karl Lagerfeld. Did all you guys get this or are they buying more time? Haha!!! Oh well, I have always liked Audi as a company and so I still wait...

    Nice model
I got a large book talking about the design process, construction and testing of the car in a similar box as yours with a similar letter. This was for an 09 V8 though so maybe they've upgraded the package

Was your car running behind schedule?

Re: Does Audi feel bad for me???

Any idea what the current production rate is in the R8 build facility?

Last year, although admittedly at the height of the financial crisis, I read that the factory was down to 2 cars a day (with a capacity of 25). I'm now wondering if part of that wasn't a trough caused by buyers waiting for the V10.

Shortly before I ordered my V10 in Chicago two weeks back I called dealers in Florida, where I'm going to keep the car. I got widely varying quotes for delivery times, from 10 weeks up to 6 months. Since many dealers won't give you a straight answer, I couldn't tell whether these times really reflected the factory's build rate or whether they reflected how many buyers each dealer had against their allocation.

I ordered my '08 V8 in September '07, at the height of the buying frenzy when dealers and flippers were getting huge premiums over MSRP and people were waiting months just to get a build date. Yet, by finding a remote Vermont dealer who had 2 allocations and only one buyer, I had my car by Christmas that year.

    Deposit Jan 2008
Order taken Feb 2009 (First on dealer's list)
Still no build date and no presents. Not a peep.

I think I hate our local Audi rep.

    That's very strange.

If you want a V10, you might try the Audi dealer in Ft. Myers, Florida. He assured me he could get a V10 in 10-16 weeks. (The nearby dealer in Naples said "at least six months" for the same order.)

It's fun to break the car in on a long secondary-road trip from the dealer back home, where you can vary engine speed easily while avoiding high revs and frequent engine stops and starts. That's how I broke in my V8 -- on a drive from the dealer in Vermont back home to Chicago.

Re: Does Audi feel bad for me???

I made some calls in December and found two dealers who thought they could have a car for me by spring. After I gave one of them a deposit, they told me it was too late to change the spring allocation we agreed on(!). They said their rep promised to get their next allocation early, so I would be looking at April/May instead of March/April. I'm a little worried I may have chosen the wrong dealer of the two, but we'll see. I will be very happy if I have a car by May. If it works out it will be an 8 hour drive home, which should be fun.

SteveR, you're not helping my emotional well being. I placed a deposit in September, and all I get every month on the 15th is an e-mail from my dealer saying no car for you.

Re: Does Audi feel bad for me???

I put a deposit on my V10 last September for Feb delivery. In early Jan I checked in and they gave me a song and dance about delays and it would be arriving in June or July. I went ballistic to say the least - the net result was i took delivery of my car last week (they got the same config from another dealer in the country) and got them to discount below sticker.

So, stay involved and vocal. If you push in a polite respectful yet forceful way you will be amazed at what they are willing to do.
