yep this time they've managed to stretch themselves to a retro couple of bumps over the engine and steal a few more hints from the 10 year old design of the Carrera GT

You guys are missing the point. It's an out and out drivers car - without luxuries - and I for one am glad they have done it.

If you are ever in Zuffenhausen, make a point of visiting the museum at the factory. It is always a beautiful blend of new and old, racing and showroom. A real treat for enthusiasts at every level.

When I saw the Thread title my mind pushed forward a Photoshopped picture of an R8 towing Boxster shaped trailer...

I agree it is an out and out sports car, just useless in the UK as the hood makes it impractical in our climate..

I agree its a very very sweet car. And next year it is most probable that Porsche will do this same "less is more" treatment to the Cayman S; making it much lighter, more powerful, better sport suspension and stripped of unwanted, but heavy luxuries.

Unfortunately. the result then is still a very expensive Porsche sportscar. I agree this new Spyder will now be configured to be a great track animal and ready to use for extremely hard and abusive driving everywhere. The only problem with the scene is that the car costs so much, the owners will almost always baby the car and protect their investment.

But for significantly less money, you can buy a lightly used but babied, 2006 Cayman S with less than 12,000, strip out the extra weight and unwanted luxuries, put in the very proven 987 TPC turbo, giving the Cayman more than 500 HP, upgrade the suspension, and steering controls with GT3 parts, add LSD, put in a lightweight race flywheel, full leather race seats, and better brakes,.. all for less than $75,000. And that car would out perform any OEM Porsche GT3 made., and you probably would NOT hesitate using it in a most proper, "drive it like U stole it", manner.

That's what I think of every time I see the new Porsche Spyder.

Hmmm...I was planning on an early,stripped out, 911 coupe shell, and upgrading everything to a GT3 or RSR style track car. Dependable, and quick, and fast. Maybe around the same, 75K or probably less. \"/ And I could probably sneak it out on the street a little bit. The example I saw yesterday was no more than 1 inck off the pavement.(in front).

For this Boxster I actually like their approach but it really deserved more than 10 HP Increase along with the weight reduction.

But they always protect the HALO 911.

Looks are subjective but I actually like it a lot

Totally agree Bodhii..a Cayman 06 is getting to the right price to strip and rebuild into a 500hp track car.It would be awesome and have been sniffing around.
