    v8 vs v10

I am sure this was covered many times before but I would like to hear hands on experience of drivers/owners who have driven both.

I only know the V8 (r-tronic). Sold it because I became a lazy potato and started complaining about it's daily drivability. Regret it since day 1.

Started the process to get another R8. I am thinking V10 this time.

If I get another V8, I won't TT or SC it.

Is the V10 really that much better in terms or power? How's the power distribution on the V10 compared to the V8?

Worth it? I don't track. Easier to find another V8 with the right colors and options than a V10. Plus, I don't want to order one.

I'd like to hear your thoughts before I go test drive one.

    Let me know! Thank you!

    Re: v8 vs v10

    HoveyR8, good morning,

Having owned 2 V8's and driven the V10 coupe for just 1 day I am not sure if I am qualified but here goes!

The V8 sound in my opinion is far more enjoyable, I found it quite difficult to feel the difference in performance between the two, although the V10 did feel like it had a bit more torque, the sound just wasn’t quite as good as the V8 which is the reason I am seriously considering a specialist exhaust for the Spyder as its not available in the V8 form.

On the other hand, the standard spec on the V10 is much higher than the V8, if you add these extras to a V8 price the difference between them is not so great, again, the standard spec on the Spyder is that much higher than the V10 coupe with the same result that there’s not a huge difference between these two.

Personally, I think the V10 will hold its value better, you rarely see a used V10below £100k in the UK with the dealers still asking close to list for a used one, you need to try one for a day really, if you’re not bothered about the slight extra power and torque then go for the V8, a good low mileage used one which has taken some of the hit, also, try a manual, it’s how I specked mine because I just love the real drive experience, don’t want to start a debate on this but I can’t see the point in r-tronic!! Unless you’re lazy as you suggested!! (Wait for it, a barrage of disagreement will no doubt follow )

It’s funny how you get fed up of a car in a short space of time, sell it for something newer you desire , I sold my last R8 for the Maserati GTS and while I think the Maserati is one of the best sounding V8s there is I deeply regretted selling the Audi within the first few weeks, my friends all thought i was mad as they said the Maser just was not in the same league, i see this now which is why I am soon to take my 3rd one! guess i will just have to put up with the V10 with a V8 sounding exhaust!!

    Cheers

    Colin

Since you don't plan on tracking I would say go with the V8 and spend some of the money you save on mods like a Stasis exhaust. V8 has more than what you need for the street. Just by throwing on the sprint booster I made my car feel faster and more fun to drive, Plan on going with either a Revo or APR flash soon and think that will make even better. Many V8's on the lot so should be able to get a decent deal

    Re: v8 vs v10

I am in the opposite camp to everyone else here. I was all set on the V8 R8 until I drove it. I was very underwhelmed by the performance compared to the ferraris I have driven. I wanted something with - for the lack of a better description - the ability to snap my neck with a good press on the accelerator. The V8 is quick, to me the power was more a strong push in the back than break your neck. So I ordered a V10, and when I finally drove it I couldn't be happier with my choice. It is the fastest car I have ever driven and at any speed I can pile on the G's with a quick stomp on the gas.

^ i "know" somehow who owned the v8 and now has the v10 both. he said the same thing. difference is huge in real life; close on paper. v10 is a rocket at any gear.

That is one sweet watch. You collect much?

I have a few that i want to get. But somewhere in the near future, would really want to get my hands on a VC Patrimony bi-retrograde day date.

If you think at any point you will regret the power that the V10 offers if you went for the v8. Then I would think you should stick with a V10.
