R8 Long-Term Test

The March edition of Road & Track has wrapped up their two part, long term test of the R8. "The R8 Odyssey" For those that take their cars to the track it provides some good insight on how the car performed on a variety of tracks across the US and for those of us that don't put their cars on the track it provides excellent insight on how the car holds up over the course of extensive use. There is an interesting complaint that for price the R8 does not have an auxiliary jack for an ipod...... As we all know it does under the arm rest, however did the early examples of the car not include this input or was this writer simply unaware??

Anyway it is a good article and overall praises the R8 across the board

maybe he had a really early R8 without the MMI system....but i think all R8's have a aux jack in the back...probly didnt see it.

My 2008 does not have an aux jack

Early R8s do not have the aux-in jack. This was discussed at length on this forum at the time.

^ Thanks. i am going to read this in detail. Hope to get a lot of info. I am planning to ship my upcoming R8 to do the Gold Rush Rally (that's around 1500+ miles) this summer in the west coast and drive back after to the east coast (that's another 3000+ miles) ...

the AUX Jack comment is buried in the article, but i thought all R8s had this input which we know is in the center arm rest so thought the writer just missed it, but from what others on the this site say, early R8s in fact did not have this input. I thought the article to contain a lot of helpful info on what to expect from your R8 on both a long road trip or on the track. Thanks for posting the links, as i don't have that capability YET!

You'll enjoy that! You should drive it out too, though.

My fiance' and I were just discussing that we need to make a road trip to Maine this summer, as it's the only corner of the United States that neither of us have been in. We've been all over in the car and it's a wonderful traveler.
