Finally Got My R8 Yesterday!

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I bought a certified pre-owned R8 from a member of this forum (thanks Peter). It was delivered from Seattle to Chicago and arrived yesterday morning. Coincidentally, yesterday was sunny and the first time in many, many weeks where the temperature got to over 40 degrees! For those of us who reside in cold climates, the first 40 degree day after a long cold spell feels like summer. If only the top went down!

The first thing I did was drive it to the Audi dealer to put some brand new Pirelli 240 Soto Zero Series II snows on with OEM wheels I purchased from yet another forum member in Chicago (thanks Mike!). All I can say is this car is by far and away the greatest ride I have yet had the pleasure to encounter. It grips to the road like the tires are glued down, and accelerates effortlessly. I drove a 911 recently and it is certainly a much rougher ride than the R8. I would call our cars far more civilized beasts.

I know you V-10 owners out there are thrilled with your upgrades from 8 to 10 cylinders, but this beauty is definitely fast enough for my tastes (although I'm certain my perceptions will change once I have the opportunity to drive a 10 cylinder)!

The only urge I couldn't satisfy was the need for far more speed. I kept on saying to one of my daughters that I wish I was on the Autobahn in Germany, so I could really see what this car can do without being afraid of getting pulled over by the suburban police!

I look forward to sharing knowledge concerning our R8 experiences with all of the forum members out there and hope to get together with some of the owners who reside in the Chicago area soon. For those residing in Chicagoland, please reach out to me so we can arrange a get-together some time.

The Pirelli winter sneakers are great. I drive mine all year 'round in every condition our wonderful Mid-West can throw at us.

Hands down, the most fun, most beautiful car I've ever owned. May you have the same joy from yours.

Come track your car May 14-16 at Brainerd International Raceway with the BMW club. It is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. At first I was reluctant to track my car. After one event I can barely wait for the next one. I get Chicago ~once per month. I come into Midway. If you would like to get together send me a PM.

Great find.....I saw Peter's car (before he saw my new V10 & decided that he had to have it too) and it is immaculate. He is a perfectionist so I assume that you are picking up a car in "new" condition with the smallest detail cared for!

Is that Brainerd event wheel-to-wheel racing or something more like SoloSprint. I am about a 7 hour drive from there and this event sounds interesting. I have never tracked my car and am a newbie so i don't know if it would be suitable for me or not. I do plan on taking in a High Performance Driving School event two weeks before that though.

And BMW guys are OK with R8's showing up?

It is an HPDE event. There is another event in August at Road America that is the 50th anniversary of BMW club. I plan on attending that event also.
