Angry '08 R8: Need Help RE: R-Tronic & Slow off the line???

I've reached the fed-up point and I've reached 23,000mi... I've had the R looked at multiple times for irregular shifting, hic-ups, bangs, lurches... basically the trans has never performed smoothly... techs have been all over it.... anyone have this problem and if so...please HELP, what did they do to fix it... I cannot get it fixed and those at Audi have thrown up their hands!!!
Plus... its always been SLOW off the line until I reach a higher rpm...(a 6 -cylinder pickup can beat me) ... is that normal for everyone else too??
I love this car, it is the best when its moving... but to get there... it sucks!

Most R8's(V8s) are pretty quick for being only 4.2 liters. Maybe you could test drive another V8 and compare? A six cyl P.U. should not be in this equation. \"/ And launches nicely even without using launch controll. If you can remedy this problem somehow you might just have a totally different respect for your car. Time for you to test another car then get in touch with a better dealership. The Mechanix should also give you an IDEA whether she is just too slow...has a problem. I thought Audis' diagnostics were TOP Notch.

Whitman, have you had the 24R4 update? Before 24R4 it was not so smooth, after, even in auto, it is now smooth as a automated manual can be. My car is definitely not slow off the line so it sounds as if yours is broken - I would go wit Harrys advice and get the dealer to allow you to drive another car and compare?
    Best Regards, Ian

I have just over 6k miles on my 09, Rtronic and have had a couple of instances where I confused the gearbox, which is frustrating, you would think Audi would invest in writing some new code to make it better. I have had the 24R4 and did notice a slight improvement. Last month I drove a friends 2010 Lambo LP560 and the shifting was very impressive, much smoother and quicker than the R8.....I was wondering if the mechanics were similar and we could benefit from the code managing that transmission? Anyway, good luck with yours and hope you get it sorted.

Re: '08 R8: Need Help RE: R-Tronic & Slow off the line???

This might sound silly, but for me, I notice my foot's positioning makes a difference in driving style. If I'm positioned where my toes are doing most of the pressing, or I'm putting most of the force on the middle of the pedal, the response is somewhat sluggish.

If I reposition my foot so that it's slightly above the top of the pedal, things are much better. That's just my personal situation though and I suspect it comes down to: how are you driving it?

I used to take it real easy off the line for fear of the car either bucking or just powering it's way forward when it hit the right RPM, so I kind of got into the habit of driving a certain way and I have to remind myself to change it up when I want more a more aggressive response.

?? See if you can't get one of those Toyota gas pedals. I hear they're AWESOM :-)

All kidding aside, not that it should be applicable in your case at 23k+ miles, but I would say my car, an 08 V8 MT6, did seem to start "freeing up" quite a bit around the 8,000 mile mark - kind of a subjective assessment, but the engine seemed to pull a bit harder, and the car move out faster. If you really "think" the car is down on power, find another R8 or even RS4 and try some simple side by side 4th or 5th gear accelleration pulls from @30 or 40mph to 70 or so.
