    R8 Family Future?

I borrowed this list from a source with pretty good reliability:

Lineup for Audi R8 & Lamborghini MY 2011

    R8 for MY11 :

    R8 4.2 430ps(July 2010)
    R8 5.2 525ps
    R8 GT/Clubsport 560ps lightweight (November 2010)

    Gallardo MY11:

    LP560-4 560ps
    LP570-4 SL 570ps

BTW, LP570-4 SL is last version of Gallardo and R8 GT/Clubsport is last version of R8 till model change...

    Any thoughts?

Another rumor said GT might be S-tronic (dual-clutch). Any way possible before model change?

I have heard many times that there is not enough room with the existing R8 wheelbase to add the S-tronic. That's the only reason it doesn't have one now. To use the Audi S-tronic will require a serious R8 redesign.

I've heard the same as well. I imagine the R-tronic will get changed/updated a bit for the R8 GT. Perhaps faster shifting or something like the LP560 response.

I wonder how long the R8 will stay in production. Next Gallardo must be 2012-ish. Do you think it's safe to say that Audi's exotic platform will be shared with the Gallardo from this point out, or do you think it will be shared with the Murcielago?

The Gallardo just got the new platform, so to say, but the M is still really old. M is do for a refresh, but I wonder about the G.

I heard the Gallardo will be discontinued. My R8 is one inch longer wheelbase than an '06 Gallardo. Is one inch not enough for an S-Tronik?

    Re: R8 Family Future?

This is what I read about R8 and S-Tronic:

"When we ask about a dual-clutch transmission for the R8's future, our Ingolstadt contact says, "The problem is, the sheer investment required to make the S tronic dual-clutch isn't viable for the R8 business case." Apparently the investment for a dual-clutch transmission compatible with the V10's torque and midengine packaging could be anywhere between $40 million and $100 million, so Audi is holding off until the worldwide economy finally gets its pants back on. So, we live with the R tronic until the second-generation R8 in 2013 or so."

So I don't know about the "not enough space" thing.

Hovy, the size is exactly the biggest part of what they are saying.

." Apparently the investment for a dual-clutch transmission compatible with ... midengine packaging could be anywhere between $40 million and $100 million
This incompatibility with "midengine packaging", is about size, and the need to redesign the current R8 to fit with the S-tronic.

    Re: R8 Family Future?

^ Actually it makes sense. Redesign = $$$

Audi should pull it off. They better if they want to stay in the race. The F458 has a dual clutch. BMW switched etc ...

Another 1 of the reasons I didn't upgrade to the V10 straight away.

The clubsport was first spotted about 12 mths ago and have been waiting for some more solid news.

560 hp and lighter..now this is going to be a serious car.

Is the CS a V8 or the V10?

Gazza, had a blast in a Nissan GT-R - your right - epic and butt ugly - have to get a black one...
