    concern over Carbon Buildup?

    hey guys,
i'm surfing through other audi forum threads about people complaining about Carbon buildup on their FSI's. It seems that this is a concern on all direct injection engines, not just audi's.

Anyone have any any problems with their R8's and how did you clean it?

There is a specific thread on here about that subject if you have a look. It will be no more than a couple of pages back as it was posted on only a few days ago.

Audi specifies injector cleaning at certain maintenance intervals. The dealer cleaned mine as part of the 15,000-mile service.

Twice I have had my Check Engine Light come on, for a misfire in one cylinder, likely due to a bit of carbon buildup coming off and getting in a valve, causing it to not seat fully. It's a temporary condition, but you have to take it to the dealer (or use a vag-com) to check for sure that it was a misfire and reset the error to turn off the CEL. For me, it happened both times when I was at the track, i.e. running the engine hot and hard.

The technician and the audi brand specialist there at the dealership said that the best thing to do is run the car hard (like I do at the track) occasionally, to get the engine hot enough to burn off the carbon. Fine by me, it's a tough job but someone's got to do it
