    Question Emissions options for U. S. R8

There are three emissions options for the R8: federal, Northeast (1QE), and California (0LM). Are these easily changeable with a software update? For example, if I were to buy an R8 from an out-of-state dealer who ordered it with the 1QE or 0LM option, could I have a service center update the car's software to federal emissions settings? (I believe the federal emissions standards are sufficient in my state.)

May be a moot point. I have since discovered that my state does conform to California emissions requirements.

Still, I'm curious whether any physical modifications would need to be made to change the emissions configuration. Also, I wonder how the Northeast option differs from the others. From what I've read, there are only two standards: federal and California.

I don't think there is any difference between the cars (hardware or the updates received). It a matter of compliance for those states that have state requirements beyond the federal level. Also, it only applies to new car sales. You can register a used car from any state in CA as long as it passes smog, which is not a problem for any new car.
