Clearshield, ClearBra, Clear whatever you want to call it...

I am about to take my car in to get tinted and paint protection. The best place locally carries 'Clearshield (tm)' and say they don't do full hoods.

Evidently they need different product. Who out there has the full hood done, one piece and do you know what product your detailer used?

I understand that 3M XPEL comes in 54" widths, so I'll probably tell these guys to get some of it and when they have it to give me a ring to schedule my appointment. Any other products out there that people have on their cars?

While on the topic. What other surfaces did people get coated?

Obviously, I'm looking to something like:

    - the full hood
    - front bumper
    - rocker panels
    - full front fenders or just front 1/3 and rear area off wheel arch?
    - leading edge of rear rear wheel arch, rear leading edge of rear wheel arch

What experiences does everybody else have? Is it worth to do the CF blades? Do you guys just partial front fenders/rear bumpers or is it worth it to do full front fenders and full rear bumpers?

No experience to draw from, but AFAIK Ventureshield is the only product that comes in the 60" width needed for full hood coverage. If you go to their website and look at the patterns in the international section, they have full hood patterns as well as the other bits for the rest of the car. I believe you could order the precut pieces directly and have your installer apply it. At least my local installer was willing to do that, even though he does not normally sell Ventureshield. I will hopefully have mine done in a couple months.

Other products offer full hood patterns that come in pieces. I don't care to have any seams on mine. Also, some have been unhappy with the clarity of the 3M product.

I had the ventureshield on mine - at the time I was told they only did partial hood as part of the kit which is what I went with. I wouldn't do partial again.

in addition to the partial hood, they did the front spoiler, sills, sideblades, and mirrors. I think they did the A pillars too.

Thanks guys, saw the patterns on their site, so hopefully they should be able to get the pattern and the product...

I've told my dealer to install clearshield prior to my taking delivery. According to him, the vendor uses a 3M product that covers the entire hood, without seams, in one piece. I asked for everything ahead of the doors that was painted Ibis White (my color) be covered, with each body panel covered with its own piece so no seams anywhere. I also asked for the mirrors and the sideblades, with the edges wrapped. Cost was $1,600 US, of which the CF sideblades were $100. When I get my car at the end of the month I'll probably post pics in case you're curious.

I was going to get the dealer to do it, but considering the car arrived in February, they would have driven the car in the salt and snow to get it to and from the detailers. So I opted to pick the car up and then have it done myself later. Just need to find the right products and get the installers to get some.

3M Scotchcal Protective Film has a great warranty and it water white clear. I have it on my car and really like it. My Audi dealer only uses 3M product. (I retired from 3M so I MAY be prejudice) We had a saying when I worked there...You can buy better, but you will never pay more.

I had ventureshield done on mine. Full hood full front bumper, etc. Looks great on the white. It made it through a full summer in the hot bright Arizona sun with no issues. Hard to tell it's even there. Obviously a good technician is key. Good luck
