Changed tyres to mich ps2 - low speed bind massively reduced

The fronts on the pirelli were down to between 2mm and 3mm, the rears still had around 5mm on them but one had a slow puncture (making it the 3rd puncture on the pirellis). As the fronts needed changing and given the past pirelli puncture probs it made sense to swap the lot to Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's which I'm a fan of.

The low speed bind which has been very pronounced of late has dropped to a very low level now.

Glad to hear it ....I am having PS2's fitted today since my Pirelli's were worn out (at ~12,000 miles). I'll see if I have the same observation.

PS2s are great. Just curious...how many miles/kms are you getting to a set of tires?

the pirelli fronts got to just over 10,000 miles. I've had a few replacement rears due to punctures so can't really say exactly what wear I would have got, but less than 10k for sure.

Are the Michelin's run flats? I had a nail puncture on a rear tire at about 14k miles. I replaced both rears. The fronts are still good at 16k.

no - I can't imagine how bad a car like the r8 would feel on runflats given how low the tyre profile is.

Had new PS2's fitted at my Audi dealer yesterday. They are not run-flats (I agree with Randombloke's comment) however they did come with a two year road-hazard warranty .... 100% replacement during the first 12 months and pro-rated depending on tread-wear during the second 12 months. That, coupled with a 10% discount for being a member of Audi Club of North America made the whole deal cheaper than TireRack.

I've got 4mm left on my Pirelli's at 13k miles. I've found that as the tyres wear down the noise seems more prevalent, especially sub 5deg C, so new tyres may seem better just because the tread squirms more with the higher tread blocks?

makes sense as audi cite the tyre stiffness as the reason behind it
