Based on 2 articles here on the forum (on welcome page), it looks like the DSG will finally be fitted on the R8. It was a matter of time.
Question is when? Any idea? Any insight? 2011 or 2012 models? later (hope not)?

I know this sound silly but I'm not sure i would really want it. It may be 'too auto ish'.
Sorry, in answer to your question, I have no idea.

Until an identifiable Audi source says dsg is on its way, I'm inclined to chalk it up to expectation and assumption. The circular nature of rumors in the car industry, mags and blogs repeating each others stories, means something gets repeated over and over until it looks credible just because of the repetition.
I know what you mean - I don't see what real world benefit a dsg would give me as the r-tronic shifts at a speed and in a manner that I enjoy. The only issues with it for me are software based - eg the choice to drop it to neutral.I know this sound silly but I'm not sure i would really want it. It may be 'too auto ish'.

That is the one thing I miss from the Ferrari box, pull both paddels to change into neutral.
When I'm driving in town I always select neutral when I come to a stop and I think that is one of the reasons I use the stick more than the paddles.

Throw me in the DSG box. Drove my GLI this weekend as I needed a backseat, and man, I miss those smooth shifts. Almost feels faster as the pull is so linear and uninterrupted.
I'd welcome a DSG any day, just as long as I can still manually shift when I wanted to.

I hear you. I drove the GTI when it came out and it had DSG. I had so much fun in it, I couldn't believe it. Let's not even talk about smoothness; it was new born baby smooth.
If Audi does in fact make a DSG, it will have the traditional +/- on the gear shifter as well as paddles.
It is undeniable that it is a matter of time.

What would the advantage be of DSG over a top of the range conventional Automatic as fitted to for example a Jaguar XKR?
^ good question. i'd say time it takes to shift from one gear to another?

I *think* there are less drivetrain losses with an automated manual vs a traditional auto too.
