Transponder

Do we have transponders in our cars? If so how do we find the transponder number?
I was signing up for an HPDE event and the entry form asked for the car's transponder number.

Unless you've purchased one of Audi's GT3 R8 race cars, it's unlikely your car already has a transponder in it. Depending on who is running the event (see, e.g. NASA etc.) you can often rent a transponder either from the track, or the organizing body.

Thanks for the information. When I was at BIR last year I thought someone mentioned that the R8 was equipped with a transponder and when activating the timing mode on the selector it automatically recorded timing similar to a transponder.
