Nice run. As everyone here knows, straight line speed isn't a stock R8's forte, but even though there are cars out there that are indeed faster in a drag race, some of them pretty mundane I might add, I can't think of a car I'd take over my current R8.

The R8 is about so much more than drag racing.

Get the two out on a track and completely diff. story. Nice vid tho. Those M3 mirrors could probably fit the R 8s' triangular window piece. A purple track ready M3 was pitted next to me the other day. I enjoyed checking it out.

most of the track times here in the uk mags suggest there is nothing between them on a track.
Epic engine in the m3 but the steering and gearchange are devoid of any feel ,the press love it but I find it uncommunicative and souless.

One of the things I really love about r8 owners, at least the ones who post here, is that there is a noticeable lack of blinkered fanboyism that is so rampant on other car forums. Pretty much everyone seems to give genuine consideration and respect to other cars, whether it's a car they'd choose or not.

It is interesting that the m3 and v8 r8 are so closely matched on performance, but things do diverge massively once other considerations are factored in. The m3 holds the cards if the buyer wants a soulful v8 and practicality - and a cheaper price tag. The r8 majors on "sense of occasion" (visual and owning) - at a cheaper price tag than other cars that deliver that.
