    Lease Vs Buy

I am in the market for an R8. I usually lease under the company or buy my cars slightly used.

From what I have heard there aren't any favorable rates on leasing. If anyone has got a decent rate let me know.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Re: Lease Vs Buy

I looked at leasing to determine the resale value of my car. With a two-year lease the dealer depreciated the value of my car 50%. They told me they did this to make sure the lessee would purchase the car at the end of the term so the dealer would not need to worry about selling the car.

This almost soured the deal for me.

Hmmm.. I lost my ass on the quattroporte so I would prefer to lease to "lock in" my loss.

    Re: Lease Vs Buy

I buy my cars other than my primary company car which is leased due to the tax benefits (there is a limit on what you can depreciate if you own but you can fully expense a lease payment even on an higher priced vehicle).

There are two factors that can make this unattractive - 1) there are no deals on lease rates for the nicest cars like an R8, 2) the residual values they are using now are ridiculously low to protect financing companies based on previous deals where they have been burned. High finance rate and low residual equates to a big monthly payment.

I'm still going to lease my R8 because the tax benefits outweigh the negatives. I backed into the lease rate from the numbers I was quoted and it is just over 7%. The residual value is so low I will likely buy the car after the lease term expires.
