Extending Warranty after 3 years? (UK)

As the earliest UK cars reach 3 years old and drop out of the original warranty period, what are the options? Are Audi offering an extended warranty on such cars and if so, what is the price and what are the conditions/requirements? I'm looking to buy a car as it reaches the 3 yr point (hoping to save some money on purchase) but obviously want some kind of decent subsequent cover. Thanks folks.

The audi dealer I use said they will be offering an extended warranty beyond 3 years, but they couldn't give a price. I expect it will cost around the £2k mark per annum given they charge $1,010 if you add a year when you buy the car:

Blimey, if it's that much I will have to look elsewhere - warranty direct or something.

what were you expecting on an £80k+ new price car? the parts don't come cheap even if you're getting the car at a knock down used.

The same as a Porsche 911 Turbo maybe - £900 ish with cover up to £5K per claim. Warranty Direct quoted £750 but who knows what you get for that.

Sounds like a reasonable assumption, although the 911 has a lot of history under its belt in terms of build quality whereas the r8 is hand built and untested in terms of long term reliability.

was the £750 the quote for the r8 from WD or for the 911?

The R8 - but I need to study that small print. £656 to be precise - their 'Luxury Care' policy. The 'Major Care' is £409. That's repairs using a Network Garage I just noticed - Franchised Dealer repair policy is £820. I'm still hoping Audi will offer their own version a little closer to these prices than £2K but you may well be right about that price.

yeah, given the cost of the parts I'd be a little nervous about not having the leverage of having purchased the warranty through the dealer.

My R8 is now 3 years old, and I just took out an extension to my factory warranty.....
The Audi extension for 12 months was a little over £3k. Included UK and Euro recovery, main dealer repair etc.
The second option offered by the AA via Audi covered all the same things, but cost me £2160 for 2 years.

Obviously I took the second option!

The dealer sorts all the paperwork, the same as you are used to with your factory warranty.

wow, that's a big difference in price.

£3k now vs £1,010 if you take it out when you buy the car is a hell of a bump. sounds like audi themselves know that it's a bit steep hence them offering the aa one.
