Thumbs up New member -new R8

    Hi there,

First of all I'd like to thank all of you for the valuable information I was able to gather over the last year - this is really an awesome forum. And this lead to some decisions and as a result I picked up two weeks ago my brand new R8 V8.

I opted for the V8 for the looks that I like much better than the V10. But to have it like the V10 from the inside I took every extra available: CF engine compartment, CF inside, bucket seats with white stitching, MR, titanium finished wheels, R-Tronic, full leather option, hill hold assist, alcantara headlining, parking system advanced, B&O, etc etc.

The R8 comes in Daytona Grey with Oxygensilver sideblades - it's a combination that I like very much and it is very compatible with our not always too sunny weather in Germany. The titanium finished wheels match also very good with the exterior colour.

Previously I have been driving Porsche 911 for 15 years the last one being a Turbo. Although the R8V8 is not that powerful it is nevertheless currently the much better car IMHO in all means.

Attached you will find some pics from the delivery day.
    Thanks again!!

Welcome and congrats on the new car!

I also came from many years of driving Porsches and the last one being a turbo.

I do think you would have enjoyed the oomph of the V10.

Whats parts of the V10's exterior do you not like?

The only thing I can think of would be the wheels, they look awful!
Other then that, the V10 is the one to have IMO

    congrats on the purchase.

I'm assuming the exterior parts he might mention are the following.

    1. Wheels
    2. Flared out side scoops
    3. Chromed grill

those are the 3 i'm assuming he might be thinking about. I would say, that the wheels could always be changed to the split 5 spokes.

    Thanks to all of you!

Yeah, the V10-V8 comparison gave me some tough nights and I test drove both of them. True, the extra hp would have been great to have but actually it is the whole appearance of the V10 that I personally considered not so perfect for me. To me it looks more aggressive and bullish (side scoops, grill and rear) than the V8 - I prefer the more "subtle" (is this the correct word) looks of the V8. (if one can call it subtle at all )

From a financial point of view it would have made sense to take the V10 as my V8 now cost more than the basic V10. But well, I am happy and this way I still have the chance to upgrade if I want to some day..

Congratulations on your beautiful new car, from a soon to be former 911 Turbo owner. In fairness, I have to say driving in modern traffic, the difference in power from the Volkswagen (affectionate term for Porsches) to an R8 V8 is not a huge deal.

Some insult the Porsche engine as a VW with lockwashers ! Both aircooled engines can be brought up to snuff.
