Audi UK Driving Experience

I did this yesterday (Wed 21st) at Silverstone and have to say that if you get a chance, do it!!!

Our group was the third for 2010 and now they have the S5, TTS and, new for 2010, instead of the S3, they have the V10 R8 with R-tronic.

Audi do not go on about any health and safety stuff, just let you and you buddy (they put you into driving pairs) drive the cars as they were intended. I have a manual R8 V8 and have to say I was impressed with the R-tronic in the V10. Perfect for fast laps and track use.

My biggest surprise was how absolutely chuckable and fun the TTS was. We ended up doing about 10 laps in that with most corners going sideways - and the Audi guys loved it and never once tried to stop anyone driving on (and sometimes beyond ) the limit.

Thinking of the advanced course now and possibly the one at Grand Prix Circuit de Catalunya.

As I said, a wonderful day out and you spend nearly all the time from 09:30 to 4pm actually in the cars - hardly any downtime at all.

Why don't you consider the Alps run with us this June. Colin says we still have a room left do to a late drop out.

It will be a terrific event, and it will be a great bonding experience for us R8 owners.

Give it some thought if you can get the time off. I'm sure we all would love to meet you.

What are the dates again for the alps trip? I'm scheduled to do a Scottish highlands run in June so THINK the dates conflicted!

We meet up in Schloss Bensberg Hotel in Bensberg, Germany during the afternoon of June 20th, and then head to the Audi factory for our R8 production tour in the AM of the 21st. Then later in the day it's off to Lucerne.

The trip goes from the 20th through the 28th of June. Most of us head back to England on the 29th.

Some people are going for part of the trip only so you can always meet up with us on a day that's convenient for you.

If you can join us on the Alps trip that would be great, it is going to be amazing and Mike and Colin have done such a great job organising everything for us too!

Yesterday I learned from a "Pro" that the "Pros" do autocross and skid pad excersizes quite frequently, to keep in tune, for at the limit situations. It's best to be very comfortable at the limit. Makes sense for everyday driving too. Know the limits of the car and ourselves.

I agree with this. The day has given me a great understanding of the abilities of my car (which are HUGE) and much more confidence in understanding that I'm nowhere near any limits on the road.
