Guess who's R8 was involved in an accident today!

Sad, but true. Someone backed into me and damaged the left front upper and lower quarter panels, clear bra, left wheel. The damage is so minor it is difficult to see.

It was someone from my office that was "talking on the phone and not paying attention. I am really sorry." I wonder how much value I will lose with a vehicle that has been in an accident when I go to sell?

    with coworkers like that....

Are you going to put it through insurance or make him pay cash for the repair? I hope your insurance won't ding you on your rates for it

At least in MI, if a parked car is hit it is considered "property damage" covered by the insurance of the offending driver. My S4 was hit by someone last year in a lot, and their insurance covered everything, including a loaner car.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but at least it shouldn't affect your insurance.

Bummer, Don. Unfortunately, there are a lot of idiots out there and you can't protect your car from everyone/everything all the time.

I'd venture to guess you'll get new panels so unless there is any underlying damage, the car's integrity should be fine. When/if you ever sell, you'll have to explain what went on so be sure to take pics documenting the damage - and repair. Most people don't do this and it can be a deal breaker. A damage report on Carfax & other car history reporting services might also be a concern if the shop or insurance company reports stationary, non-moving events too (I think they do).

I feel for you Don. I use my car far less than I should because I'm afraid of dings and dents from careless people! I try to park far away from everyone, but that only helps a little. At least it wasn't a hit and run...leaving you to pay some of the cost of the repair.

I'm having an issue with what I think is a change in color of my car due to the VentureShield and wax my detailer used on it and the rest of the car...turning my Ibis white car yellowish. And just dealing with that is a nightmare....so once again, sorry to hear about your car and the stress it is putting you through.

Sorry to hear about the damage. I suffered the same fate with a 911. Don't be so sure the insurance companies will automatically replace panels. Quite often they prefer to repair the existing sheet metal. As others have said here, document the damage and repairs and be honest about it when you sell the car. My 911 was otherwise in good enough shape the buyer pretty much ignored the repairs. Got my asking price on a combination overall condition and honest presentation.

Sorry to hear about it. Good Luck.

Make sure the repair facilities are qualified to work with aluminum. I would tend to require that the car is fixed at a certified R8 repair facility, and make sure to get plenty of supporting documentation.

Sorry to hear about that man. Seems drunk driving accidents have become a thing of the past. It's no longer DUI/DWI it's now DWT (texting).

I know you're upset and I'd be upset too. However, we should be thankful. I know it's not good to say this after your accident. The reason I say we should be thankful is, four days ago my grandmother was stepping off the sidewalk and was knocked down by a texting driver who didn't see her. Broke her hip and arm at age 90.

Everyone, be careful. There are idiots in the streets, more than there is salt in the sea.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss. There's always a bright side I guess.
