    Next-gen r8?

Will Audi still build a 2nd gen R8 or is the current R8 a special model which will only be sold in a limited time scale? I read around here that the next gen R8 will come after the next-gen Gallardo. Is that true? Any word about this?

    BTW: I'm gonna order an R8 soon: 6spd 4.2 V8

Hop over to this link, register on the R8 Pilots web portal and check out the previous discussions with Audi's R8 guru, Jochen Wagner. He does say Audi wil not be providing any additional engine or transmission options in the foreseeable future, which is quite a ways out in Audi speak.

    Re: Next-gen r8?

Companies use new models to stimulate fresh interest from new customers and/or those seeking to upgrade - but they have enough models already in the mix (especially now they have the gt) to cover the main bases. There really isn't much in the way of new competition for the r8 out there at the moment - maybe things will change if bmw or mercedes come up with something halfway decent, but I'm not holding my breath.

Boy, confusing, after Car & Driver quoted Audi officials saying a dual-clutch is in the offing.
Porsche's PDK can handle the greater torque and power of the 911 Turbo, and Audi now owns Porsche, so c'mon!!!

Audi originally claimed that we will have to wait until the next version (?version 2?-->2014+) before we get the R8 with a Dual Clutch Transmission.

    Time will tell!

P.S. For now...the R-Tronic in the V10 with the sport mode turned on is mighty fast and smooth! S.

Well, the consensus certainly seems to be that it's better in the V10 than in the V8, even (I guess) the 2010 V8.

In another thread, there's discussion of unsatisfactory throttle/ignition behavior after the 24r4 update to smooth out the V8 R-tronic. Any such issues in the V10? Do you find the engine to "feel less eager" than you expect?

To be honest Jim, I haven't found the V10 lacking in power. Occasionally I shift without slightly lifting off the gas at high revs and notice a little "jerk"...but it is rare.

I haven't really pushed the car yet, shifting with my foot remaining planted on the floor. I've been told that you DO need to time your mashing on the peddle with your shifting for the smoothest operation. And overall, I have heard that the V10 IS smoother than the V8, but I never drove one in a comparison test.

I do know that if you want more power....it IS there with the V10 whenever you call for it!
