    Jack Adapter?

Are any people interested in a jack adapter for the R8?

I am thinking of having something made that will fit in to the cup of my jack and that then fits in to the OEM lift point that the widow maker uses.

I was really surprised this past weekend to see a fellow R8 member changing his track tires using a widow maker. He, of course, had to go through loops and hoops to specifically get his Audi dealership to provide him his jack because the North American cars are not such supplied with them. I chided him for using it, and after one side was changed, I went about to see my student at the lapping day about his progress, etc, and when we returned, there was Nick's poor R8 lying on it's side, with the widow maker crumpled under the car and the rear rotor on the ground. So, until I get a hoist in my workshop and lifting my car no longer is an issue with a jack, I'm considering making a jack pad.

So, I was wondering what sort of interest there in others if I were to make a small run of these things? I was thinking getting them made from Delrin or some other hard plastic, with a nice shape that fits in to the OEM widow maker point, and then in to a round disk that is accepted by a typical aluminum racing jack. The next time I swing by my machinist, I'll see what they can do for me. Anybody?

    Re: Jack Adapter?

Using the Audi recommended jacking points (under the car), with an appropiate floor jack is just wonderfully quick. The car is so stiff both wheels are off the ground using one jack at the rear jacking point. Marked like a helipad. A round circle with an x in the middle. You can't miss it . But I'd like to see what you come up with.

    Re: Jack Adapter?

I guess my question for a DIY kinda guy, if one wanted to leave an R8 on jack stands for instance, how would you do it then? The R8 is expected to only ever be lifted on a hoist then?

    Re: Jack Adapter?

You would put the jackstands exactly where the recommended hoist positions are. The two circles and the front crossmember. Audi doesn't reveal it, but there is a rear crossmember that the Lambo mechanix use. Ours is covered by plastic. Once you know where that rear crossmember is you can mark it onto plastic panel. A rag/towel will protect the plastic panel. The panel is flush against the crossmember. On the front, remember to use the crossmember directly behind front diff. A jack will not reach there. Lifting from the rear Circle point will allow you access to the front jacking points. Capeesh ? I use the stiffness of the chassis to my advantage. When entering my drive way I "three" wheel and one tire spins in the air and does a burnout when it touches the driveway again. Leaving a tire mark. Does this happen to anyone else?

    Re: Jack Adapter?

Do any other models have the same situation? maybe there is an adapter available already? An adapter like such could make things easier.

    Re: Jack Adapter?

This one will fit very nicely in the trunk/boot of the car:

This one has a nice long reach. It is very heavy and therefore not portable:

    Re: Jack Adapter?

I used to use a 5" length of nylon bar in the sill jack points and the normal pad on the trolley jack until i found the proper 'X' jacking points, now I just use the trolley jack under them instead.
