    Auditron Western Regional HPDE

My wife and I are signed up for this Audi Club event, and I wondered if any other R8's will be attending from CA, OR, WA, AZ, UT or NV? I know there are lots of you out there! This is a very fun track. The track is located in an area of rolling hills, so there are many interesting elevation changes. And since this is an Audi Club Event, there will be excellent classroom and in-car instruction provided. Additionally, the associated social events make it an entertaining weekend for a non-driving spouse. Audi Club is definitely your best bet for a first track day.

There will also be a few surprises for those in attendance. You don't want to miss this!!!!

The event will be managed by the Golden Gate Chapter with the support and involvement of the North West, Southern California, Arizona, and Utah chapters of the ACNA.
This is a late spring, early summer opportunity at Thunderhill Raceway www.thunderhill.com for two days (three if you sign up for HOD's Friday the 28th program www.hookedondriving.com). We have prepared a standard HPDE, combined with an Eco driving skills training and challenge (TDI vs Hybrid) to kick the fun level up a notch or two. We will have activities on Friday evening, including a BBQ, track walk and more. (Camping at the track will be available.) Saturday and Sunday will be the normal HPDE with an Eco driving challange and safty seminars. A spectacular prime rib banquet is being planned for Saturday evening.

Memorial Day is the Monday (May 31) following the HPDE.

Registration to this point has been very slow. If you want tons of track time this will be the event to sign up for. Tell a friend or four.
The cost for this event is $490 for students and $250 for instructors. The cost includes BBQ Friday eve, lunch on Sat and Sun + the Sat eve prime rib banquet. And of course your time on track with instruction.

But the extra activities will HELP to LOWER your LAP times !! Thank-you Despy Sr. For getting me started the right way. Audis' HPDE at Buttonwillow was the best way to break me in and bond me to the R8. Now I realize the stock Pirellis pretty much suck. Is it possible the Hankooks are as good or maybe better? Buttonwillow track was moist in early sessions leading to a FANTASTIC couple of days.

Despo...I am going to take your route from 101 and will visit, but not be able to spend a long time there, on the 29th or 30th, on my way to SD.

If you PM me or E-mail me with your phone number, I'll call you when I get there to see if we can meet for a chat!

If things work out, I'll take SBFV10 to my local canyon. I'll put my slicks on so I can keep up with my big brother. \"/ The 101 will lead you to my town, Montebello, and the canyon starts in Whittier .Google Turnbull Canyon, Hacienda Hts. Ca. for a map to study. If you have a chance SBF, Or take a look at my measly video. Click on ink below.

Harry, I've looked at your video several times and I LIKE IT! Nice drive...

I'm not sure if my trip down will give me time to visit you and take the road, but I'll be leaving SD on June 7th in the AM and was headed straight north via I 5. Maybe I can meet you in the AM on the 7th and we could do the drive and grab lunch...before I head on my way further north????

PM me with your phone number and meeting info if this sounds like it might fit into your schedule. I could give you a call when I'm near the I 5-I 605 interchange and head to Whittier to meet you.

    Steve

P.S. I'll follow you down the canyon since you know it well and I can TRY to keep up with you! I know that it will be hard to do....but I'll try! S.

Going up the canyon is a little bit less radical. Letting the engine pull you up is far less hectic than coming down !! June 7th is a bit away...but is VERY possible.

Good Harry....hopefully we can do it both ways!

PM me back or E-mail me when you know your June 7th schedule and we can make definitive plans.

Also, maybe if you can, join us for a day drive in SD the week of June 1-6. SDR8 is open for ideas! It will be fun to meet as many R8ers as possible. I will, in time, become a member of "your" So Cal group, as I'll be slowly making the move down there in the next few years.

Guys....I have bad news! I will have to postpone my drive down to SD until the summer! A family emergency has arisen and I need to cancel my plans for my trip down south.

I am quite bummed....but I will try to do it later in the summer.

Thanks for all your planning and help. I DO look forward to coming down in the future!

Thumbs up Re: Auditron Western Regional HPDE

We had a great time at Thunderhill. It was my first time driving this track. The weather was beautiful and the track was really great fun.

In the paddock we were parked next to a beautiful black R8 V10 driven by a fellow forum member. Unfortunately, I don't recall his forum name but perhaps he will chime in here and refresh my memory.

Also, BERGS and his beautiful companion stopped by Thunderhill on Sunday and visited for a little while during the HPDE. I really appreciate their making the long detour to visit. If they'd had a little more time we would have gotten them out on track with the instructors, but their traveling schedule did not permit.

It is always such a pleasure to visit with other R8 owners!

This event reinforced what a great program Audi Club NA has for introducing people to sport driving on the track. It is heads and shoulders above a regular 'track day' event. It is so safe, supportive, and welcoming, and the quality of the instruction is outstanding - truly a superior experience. I highly encourage other R8 owners to try it at least once.
