Will we see an R8 GT Spyder?

With the new GT Coupe confirmed, I wonder if we will see a Spyder version? Have a look at the following link, some nifty work with photo rendering gives us an idea of what it might look like, it also features a side blade and I have to say it looks pretty good!

They asked project manager of the R8 in the 5/10 autopilots discussion if there is going to be a GT V10 and he danced around the question...

    [20:31:07] A. Stokreef:
Dear Mr. Wagner, Will there be a R8 Spyder GT in future?

[20:34:19] Audi R8 expert Jochen Wagner:
@ A. Stokreef: This is an interesting idea!

When is it due Colin? We've got to see it!

Personally, I think that the GT should only be a coupe! A spyder just doesn't fit with my mental picture of a "race ready" car. Time will tell.

So far 6 variants of the R8 are enough....R8 coupe....V8, V10, Spyder....V8, V10.....GT Coupe V10...and don't forget that ultra exclusive and expensive race car version...the "what's it called".

Next, version 2...in 2014+...will match these 6 but with more of everything....including the dual clutch tranny!

Isn't the concept an oxymoron though? The GT is a lightened, focussed, track special, the Spyder a heavier car with softer suspension settings to offset the more flexible chassis. The combo would be heavier and floppier??

The whole idea of the R8 GT is to make a more track orientated model. A convertible will never fit this definition unless it is made using ultra expensive, super strong and lightweight monocoque carbon materials ( a la Zonda). Otherwise, without an integrated roof to hold everything firmly together, there is always too much flex going on throughout the separate body and frames for such precise hi performance track use. Its the same reason that Porsche doesn't make a convertible GT3.

True, but that didn't stop Ferrari from making the 16M.

They aren't full out race cars, and people know that. It's a faster, lighter, better R8 coupe. A Spyder GT will be a faster, better, lighter spyder. Is the concept of a convertible track car flawed? Yeah, kind of. Still a better car though.

That said, I don't think they'll make an R8 GT Spyder. And that's fine with me, because soft top spyders suck and the R8 looks way better as a coupe.

Re: Will we see an R8 GT Spyder?

In summary, The Spyder is for feeling sweet around town. The coupe is for serious procreation. Audi hits the mark though... for bang for your buck. The much nicer convertibles cost a heck of a lot more than the Audi Spyder.

Which ones are nicer Harry? I find the Spyder ranks up there with the best.
    Heck....even Iron Man loves it!

It's not for me thought. The R8, to me, will ALWAYS be a coupe with its fabulous side blades!!!!!!
