    Passenger seat lock

I dont know if there is something wrong with my R8 or if this is just the way it was built, however, the passenger seat does not have a lock that prevents it from folding forward when it is unoccupied and i apply the brakes from a decent speed. in every other car i've owned, there is some lever that you must depress to fold the seat forward. not in this car. is my car defective?

also, i've noticed that in certain gears, there is a rattle from the gear box when i take my hand of the shifter. the rattle comes from the metal of the shifter shaft vibrating against the box itself.

The seat issue is no lt normal, I suggest you check by ensuring the seat is firmly pushed down and if this does not fix it then check the latch at the bottom of the seat which locks it down. Perhaps the latch is stiff and held up in the open position permanently.

You may need to go to your dealer to get this fixed, it is certainly not normal.

See if you can tighten the gearlever shaft with your hand, it maybjust have worked loose if we are talking about the same piece it should be easy to make it hand tight.

The other thing you might check is how far you have the passenger seat adjusted rearward. If the seats all the way back against the parcel shelf, it's possible you don't have enough play in the seat back mechanism to lock the seat back in-place. Try moving the seat forward and see if locks appropriately. Otherwise, a trip to the dealer.

Are you talking about this piece which vibrates? It can be hand tightened but I'm sure if this was the piece, you have already fixed it.

Obv. in your case I guess its an MT but the theory is the same

The manual gate setup actually has a plastic (guessing Delrin) under piece that keeps the shaft of the shift lever from ever touching the aluminum gate. The plastic piece is just a few thousands larger and will maintain a very minimal distance between the two metal pieces. You might be able to slip a piece of paper between the two.

If your shift lever's rubbing or vibrating against the metal, I'd guess that the plastic piece and the metal gate are not quite aligned to each other correctly. The plastic piece will not make the vibrating sounds against the shift lever's shaft, as it absorbs the vibration better than metal on metal.

I also agree w/Fiftypence - make sure the seat's not fully back. It always makes me cringe when someone gets in the car and starts moving the seat back until it's against the shelf - one would think there would be a set of seat stops to keep this from happening.

Great item to wrap...The shift shaft. Back to the seat problem...Maybe the hand lever located in headrest is malfunctioning causing seat to not lock in upright position.

Mines not as shiny as that, mine is more a matt aluminium (and the rest of my console is CF)...
