Memory Stick

Can anyone give me some tips on getting the memory sticks to work. I dumped a handful of itunes on one and my 09 R8 doesn't recognize it, what am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you have several things to correct.

The R8 uses SD memory cards, not memory sticks. The SD cards can not be the SDHC cards for 2009 and earlier (2010+ cars can use the HC cards), this usually means 2GB or smaller. You also need to have your songs in MP3 files, not itunes.

Don't buy SDHC cards.

Buy normal standard SD cards. You can find some that are 4GB, Transcend makes them. I have 2 X 4GB cards in my R8. Very hard to get, i was able to source from some dude on Ebay.

I think I took the last two Transcend 4GB cards from Conrad Electronics UK back in February as they are no longer listed on their website. They only have the SDHC variety now.

I know Conrad electronics!! They have stores in Stuttgart as well.

I think they probably sent them from around there , delivery took alot longer than desired

So far I make do with SD, no need for an AMI upgrade just yet.

The number of files/folder barrier is probably more a concern than the card size - max 400 files per medium, max 255 directories with max 8 directory levels.

Are you saying no more than 400 songs on a card? And if so, is this a limitation on the 2010/11 cars as well? I'll be seriously bummed if it is.

the wording is taken from the manual and it certainly reads to me as 400 songs max, but it could have changed since then - although if it still can't take sdhc cards then I doubt it.

so if they've upped the card capacities it can handle it follows they will have upped the max files - someone with a newer manual should be able to say what the new limits are.
