    engine compartment help

I picked up a 2009 Silver R8 with under 1,100 miles. The car has every avalible option...carbon everything etc. Wow very nice car, especially comming from a SC Viper SRT10. When I open the engine compartment what is the right way to close it? does the spoiler have to be elevated? or should it be closed? Do I carefully push it down or just drop it? Help.....responses appreciated

    Congrats & welcome !!

Drop it from a distance that closes it. The spoiler clears the cover, up or down.

A drop of 6" or so should be sufficient.

The hood, on the other hand, usually requires a little bit of a push right where the Audi Rings are to get it to latch.

Congrats on the car - it's so much more than the Viper ever dreamed of being. (not that there's anything wrong w/a Viper).

    Re: engine compartment help

Thanks guys appreciate the response. Yes I do really like the car much better than the viper. The fit & finish & overall feel of the car is so much better, however there is a big power difference. My viper was supercharged so it was dyno'd @ 740hp. However it's difficult to use that all that power, the car was always sliding out.

One more question, what's the break in period on a V8 R8?

None - drive it like you stole it as soon as the oil and water are up to temp.

The engine is broken in at the factory.

Can the front hood be closed without leaving fingerprints?

Use a rag or gloves? I usually have a good microfiber towel around to remove/prevent hand marks. By pressing on the Audi logo you can minimize fingerprints, but I always still seemed to get them. Now that I removed the badge, I just use a rag.

Argh I was thinking there might be something you could grab under the hood to pull it down and close it with momentum. That's how I used to close my trunk without touching it

maybe I can just push down on the audi badge

Hmm, that's true. Remove the rings & you don't have anything to press against. To the microfiber!
