Read the manual, you'll find it if you have it in the storage compartment under the flap at the back of the centre console. You'll need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to connect.
DSI,
A little more info would be good too. Please update your profile with where you are. There are differences for different countries for some items. Also, for your initial post, what year is your car and what options? if it is a 2010 with the AMI, you should have plug between the seats below the package shelf. If you have the CD changer, you will most likely need to use the universal audio plug in the center console, as Andy mentioned.
I pulled the CD player in the back and had it replace with an iPod dock. Limited MPI access because it was not originally designed for the R8 but you can create libraries that correspond to CD1 … CD5 with CD6 corresponding to you complete iPod library. Nothing but Track 1 etc. on the MPI unit. Better than nothing but OEMPlus is working on a better solution but have not seen it yet.
There is also a pair of SD slots behind the navigation screen...

I've found that two SD cards and six CDs offers plenty of music for hours of driving.
I do wish that the SD card player would support larger SD cards. It's getting very difficult to find the older, smaller sized SD cards used in the R8. By contrast, my 2010 S4 supports very large SD cards (32 GB I believe). Two of those can hold a whole lot of music.
