A few issues

Hi,

I have a few problems with my R8 and would be happy if anyone can offer any thoughts.

1. Multimedia - I have a 4mb SD card and it seems that it can only read half of it. The system would stop reading mp3s around first letter M. Are 4mb cards not working properly? The other, 2mb card is working fine.

2. Rattling sound - There is a metal rattling sound when I reach 60 km/h. It is not loud and it doesn't increase with speed. This started when I took the car to the dealer to make some factory upgrades. After, I took it back to the dealer again but they say they can't identify it.

3. Oil consumption - Between 7.500 - 13.000km the car was burning a bit more than 1l on every 3.000km. Now, 13.000km - 15.000km it already burnt 1.5l. Is this normal? Driving conditions are the same.

Re 1; Look at the limits for number of files and directories, these are imposed irrespective of space consumed.

re 2: Badly fitted 'upgrades'?

Re 3: Within tolerances, some get more some get less. Is yours a daily driver? DD's tend to consume less than garage candy cars. Seems to be a peculiarity of the FSI in these stressed engines. 1.5L in 2000k seems a little on the high side of normal so keep an eye on it. Do you get smoke on startup?

While on a road trip last month, a metallic clanking sound appeared. By the second day, it was getting worse, but only at slow speed, or while coming to a stop. I used the nav system to find the nearest Audi dealer in the Chicago area and they told me to come right in.

I got in the car with the tech and as we were backing out, the noise was obvious. They did some checking and found there was a bulletin/campaign/recall, whatever they're called, for the suspension components. Seems that the "covers" for the suspension came loose and were banging against themselves.

Audi knows about this and has issued a fix. I was in and out in 2 hours and 2000 km later, seems the fix is still working.


As an aside, I flew into Ljubljana 2 years ago and rented a motorcycle. Took a ride through Slovenia and Italy. Beautiful country you have!

true, seems that a limit on the number of files is a bit more than 400 per the card. I changed files with some larger files and now all are loaded.

My car is a daily driver and no, I usually don't get any smoke at the start up. But there is a noticable smell of gasoline when standing still. I burn ard 20l per 100km on average.

I will get them to check the suspension and I'm going to inquire what campaign they were running before this sound occured. I have to take the car back in anyway after 1.000 km; they will check the oil and send it to the factory for a test.
