3M Film of Carbon Side Blades

Hi, I recall reading that it is recommended to apply 3M to the carbon sideblades due to chipping. Should the film be applied over the entire side blade or over the edge? For those of you that have applied the 3M what do you recommend? Responses appreciated

The leading edge of blade is the culprit for getting rock dings. You would be losing alot of the CF blades high gloss by clear bra-ing- unless of course, you don't care, even go with a matt finish. Clear bra is a very SLIGHT matte in my opinion. I am seriuosly thinking about clear/matte finish on WHOLE car. Rather than the very popular hoodlum/matte black, maybe a matte Jet Blue is in my future-with all high gloss CF bits. What cha think? I had the VentureShield put on the leading edge ONLY also. I don't think that you need to do the whole sideblade.

Leading edge should be all you "need", but I am paranoid about random keys, belt buckles and purses in lots so I am doing the whole surface of the blade. I also don't want to mess with any seams when I wax it.

True SteveR...but you could also say that ("I am paranoid about random keys, belt buckles and purses in lots") about the rear wheel arch as well. Maybe Harry has it right! Do the whole car.

Heh, how did you guess. I am doing everything but maybe the roof, trunklid, and exhaust tips.

Front, hood, A-pillars, doors, wheel arches, mirrors, and blades will be done.

I think the Premier web site has a really good total wrap example using a R8.

Sounds good Steve R. It will probably help in Michigan's weather also!

There you go Harry....have Premier do your full car wrap! I'll be anxious to see it when I finally get down to visit you.

I bought my car last week and the ENTIRE car is covered in 3M. By the time the Le Mans race starts this weekend, I will have all of it removed! It's keeping me from getting to the paint to make the car look like it should. I have my work cut out for me with my heat gun and Griot's clay... I'll deal with the rock chips. I'm going Lambo style: when it's chipped more than you can stand, have the panels painted!

Loud V12....I guess the installer didn't have it well "detailed" before applying the film?? Did they use the pre-cut 3M or the VentureShield? If it was the 3M...you might like the VentureShield better...and Premier is the place to go in California (I hear) if you decide to have it re-done "correctly".

    Good luck.
