    Vibration at 120-155 mph

If the thought police get wind of this.........

I stretched it out the other day to confirm a vibration issue I've got only over the 120 mph mark. I'm sure this also occurred prior to slightly kerbing the passenger front wheel at 30 mph, but a very noticeable vibration starts up, seemingly through the steering wheel, but not the brake. I don't recall this at the track day last October when I last hit such speeds, but it made be back off at 155 mph, as did the oncoming horizon

The car does not pull to one side during acceleration or braking. There is a plastic downstand scoop adjacent to the front passenger wheel which is missing a small piece - thanks to the Highland Council Pothole Installation Dept - but I can't see that this would cause this. I'm getting the tracking and the wheel balance checked on Tuesday and the scoop replaced.

Is there anything else I should look out for?????

You need to find a specialist wheel balance shop, not on the R8 but a while ago two normal tyre shops said no problem, specialist said it was out of round and the run-out was wrong.

Really try to find a shop that uses this type of balancer as they are the best out there.

Its measure Radial force.. which basically means it measures your rim and tyre under huge load with a pressing roller to simulate the weight of the car on the assembly.

I was recommended to this type of balancer when i mentioned to my dealer that I had a vibration through the steering on the track at similar speeds.

It actually picked up that the RIM on the left hand front was out of round by 1 gram on the inner rim.

They balanced it out and all other tyres and the car is now so smooth at any speed.

By the way..don't get locked up

Thanks, Gazza. And I won't. Its a great straight road with full visibility, and no traffic. More likely to smack a roe deer. Kangaroos an issue over your way?

Not really except for a great bit of mountain road which is isolated and is only 10 mins away from where I live and travel almost daily.

Need to be careful at night coming home as they sometimes just jump out when they see you coming.

Safer in the Gtr as the lights are much whiter and brighter.

Mike If you have a wheel out of round you may be able to get it fixed at Wheel Wizard in Byfleet. I dropped mine there today and they are turning it round for Saturday. They heat the wheel and press it out to get it back to round shape. I asked with you in mind and they said they could do one in a day, in case you are able to come down south a day early. I'll advise after Saturday. Btw - they refurbed a wheel of mine last week that had curb damage, looks awesome. Very nice work there. I'm dropping my BMW for all 4 wheels tomorrow too.

My son and I just acquired a used Hunter GSP9700 balancer and TC3500 tire changer for our hobby car barn. Very nice gear, and if properly operated should be able to tell you if either the wheel or the tire is causing your problems.

Sorry you are not closer, as we'd be glad to look at it for a fellow R8Talker.

Thanks Mike, I'm going down to Glasgow on Monday to see if The Wheel Specialist can help. I'll let you know how I get on.
