    Spyder Production, 2011 V10's???

We continue to get ZERO information from our dealer or Audi regarding the 2011 production slowdown for V10 Spyders. Just lots of dancing and we don't know's.
Has anyone heard anything at all more recently?
Order placed in Feb/March and was supposed to be produced week of 5/31. Now...nothing. No car, no news no nada! Just a big deposit sitting at the dealership, earning them interest and us wondering when things will begin to move again.

    Who's hearing anything?

    Happy Motoring,
    StuM and Shelby Girl

    Re: Spyder Production, 2011 V10's???

My order went in early May and I was told I was likely to take delivery in late September of a MY2010.

I subsequently wanted to revise my options in mid-June when I saw some options available in other countries that weren't listed in Aus, and after a fair bit of argument, they put in a whole new order (couldn't modify the existing one apparently) and I will now suposedly get a MY2011 by December.

Only downside (apart from the extra wait), is that there will be another Spyder around town which looks almost identical to mine, as the original order will become floor stock

Dealer's reliability about delivery dates however could be similarly spurious as his original assertion that options in Aus were different to options in other countries for a reason other than their laziness in amending the order, even though the cars for every country are made in the same factory on the same production line by the same people.

I will let you know how my date shifts or if I see my Spyder's doppelganger in September at the dealership.

    Re: Spyder Production, 2011 V10's???

    Thanks for input.

The mgr of my dealership called me today, somewhat pissed that I'd even question why things are so slow and no info being made available. I may be wrong, but it sure seemed like he implicated, "...you should be honored to have us do business with you..."! I just wanted some type of periodic update, like my Porsche and BMW dealers much more readily provide.

Anyway, the new story is that Audi was not satisfied with the quality of some of the parts (bumper area, front or rear?) from a supplier. Thus, they were holding things up a while. Supposedly production is to start again in July, and my March order is supposed to be delivered to me in October.

But then he told me various stories about "typical change of model year shutdown" and then, "they ran the 2010 production longer than planned". I can't believe Audi would have such poor business planning and after originally scheduling build to begin 5/31, are not more than a month and half late to start the build. I sensed too much tap dancing and story telling, after the pissy opening comments.

I too questioned some of the options available to us in the U.S., but was told "no you can't have any of those special or exclusive options". Not sure about that, but I gave up and conformed. Again, much better attitudes, or at least attempts to assist, from BMW and Porsche in this regard.

Yet, in the end, we loved our prior R8 coupe and feel fortunate to have snagged a 2011 build slot. Now...if we can just get the darn car and feel good about the buying process!

There have been production delays late in the 2010 model run due to problems with the front bumpers supplied by a vendor. It would seem plausible that the bumper problems might affect the early 2011 build schedule as well.

Do you know whether it is a Spyder-only production problem or affecting all R8's ?

I would imagine from an efficiency and parts management point of view they would do a run of coupes for a couple of weeks, then a run of spyders, then coupes etc, and not have different variants mixed together down the line, but I might be completely mistaken.

If it is a Spyder-only problem, presumably they can they keep building coupes whilst the problem is rectified, and not have a massive backlog that causes the (presumably smaller run) of Spyders to be delayed even more by a similar backlog of coupes.

It would be interesting to know what the current demand mix is for V8s vs V10s vs V10 Spyders.

Not sure whether the issue affects all versions, coupes and spyders. Our dealership contacted us again today and simply said, "we're on it, watching and waiting". No other info yet.
We'll share as we hear things.

my dealer was supposed to get their first Spyder around Christmas but they just called me yesterday and said they should have it end of September now.
so that is almost 3 month earlier then what it was supposed to come in.

Just received word that our Spyder was moved into the "production cycle". Not sure what that means, but I'm hoping it is a good thing!
