Just ordered my R8 V10 ;) I have many Q??

Hello Guys,

I have been reading threads in this forum for the past 3 months, I have to say YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING. I was involved in the M3 and M5 forums before, but this feels much more mature.

So, I took a difficult decision and bought the R8 V10, I had to choose between an SLS or 560-4? I hope I did the right decision.

Suzuka Grey/full leather Cognac interior with White stitch all over, my Q:

1: I decided to ditch the CD player and take the AMI, does anyone know if it is compatible with the iPhone? Calls,contacts and music? Does it come with an iPhone holder/dock?

2: I ordered the illuminated sill inserts over the CF? Guys please a very clear photo of both?

3: Launch control? I know it is available, does it KILL the clutch in a way? Do you guys use it frequently?

3: Are there any special 2011 options that I should order?

Thanks a lot guys, I am widely open to any discussion or advice about owning and driving a new R8 V10 . Dealer says I still have a week if I need to order any extra stuff.........

Welcome to the forum and congrats on ordering your R8! I promise you will not be dissapointed in your decision.

See below for my attempt to answer your questions.

There is not a dock but a compartment between the seats that has the cable/connector for hooking it up. I just purchased a separate iPod classic to dedicate to the car (holds my entire iTunes library and I can just leave it in the car). The iPhone will sync via bluetooth for all of your contacts and recent calls.

2: I ordered the illuminated sill inserts over the CF? Guys please a very clear photo of both?

I don't have the illuminated sills but there may already be some pics posted if you search the forum.

3: Launch control? I know it is available, does it KILL the clutch in a way? Do you guys use it frequently?

I don't believe so. I think it just holds the revs and allows you to floor it and dump the clutch. I only have about 2,000 miles on my car and I didn't feel like abusing the car with launch control yet. I will very soon and I have plans to go to a drag strip a couple of times this summer so it will get a work out.

4: Are there any special 2011 options that I should order?

The V10 is pretty loaded but enhanced leather and the alcantara headliner are nice. There are some options for adding carbon fiber in the interior and exterior. I don't know if there is anything added for 2011 model year but once you get away from standard order guide you will have to go through the Audi Exclusive program which can get pricey.

Congratulations on ordering your new car. I'm sure you will love it. To answer your first question, yes, it is compatible with the iPhone. It just has the cable that plugs in. I have the CF sill inserts, but I don't think I have a picture. There are a couple of pictures posted of the illuminated ones which you might be able to find through a search.
Also, it is helpful if you add your location. As far as owning an R8, just be prepared for lots of admiration!

It is compatible but I think you lose the ability connect via bluetooth and use it as a phone if you are connected to the AMI?

I have my car with audi exclusive, I guess every piece in the interior is exclusive since I have alcantra headlining and the whole interior in Cognac with a white stitch. I have CF inlays. No CF mirrors or sills, I had a bad experience with chipped CF that looks extremely ugly.

I will add my place and a proper signature when I head home, replying from iPhone now

Guys, I still don't have a clear answer for my iPhone. I can connect it, and there will be a cable and a compartment to put it in. Will it sync calls, music and contacts to the car through the cable or Bluetooth? Is it a better idea to have an iPod made for the car and just connect the iPhone through Bluetooth?

Guys some more feedback about launch control? Who does it all the time and how does it feel? Wheel spin or no wheel spin? etc.....

If you have ordered the correct options your iphone will use bluetooth to connect for calls, phone book and sig strength display.

If you have AMI and the iPhone lead it will also allow you to display and control all of the 'iPod' features via the car. The bluetooth will still work.

If you have all of the above and add the Audi iphone cradle you will be able to clip the iphone in the cradle and get charging and connection to the external car GSM antennas however with the iphone in the cradle the 'ipod' features are not available in the car display / controls. You can still copy your music to mem stick and plug that into the AMI via a different lead or to a card and insert that in the slots behind the display.

If you are in America the I'm not sure about the cradle :-)

Be aware that there is (at least in Aus and UK) a separate option for the leather 'controls' package, which includes the steering wheel, handbrake and the leather around the gear change.

You might not be getting those in your chosen leather colour and stitching without this extra option.

Also, I found the thicker sports steering wheel on the TT-RS is nicer than the standard wheel on the R8, and this thicker 'sports' wheel (with an 'R8' badge) is also an extra option. (See my thread on this on the forum).

Do you have an electric garage door or security gate operated by a remote signal? If so, the 'Homelink' option is really handy, since you just train the car to emit the same signal when you press a button near the cabin light switch. (There are 3 homelink buttons, if you have multiple doors/gates to open). No more fumbling for your remote control or worries about a flat remote battery.

P.S. Regarding the iphone, I currently have a 2008 TT (still waiting for my R8 V10 Spyder), and I keep a separate iPod permanently connected in the car, which I occasionally refresh with new songs.

My iPhone just syncs via Bluetooth all calls and contacts and generally works fine.

I originally went through 2 brand new iPod nanos for the car and found that the connection was so tight that it bent the pins on the nano and stopped the nano working the next time it was connected.

I eventually got an old, well-used nano from a friend with a bit more tolerance on the socket, and now leave that connected all the time apart from the occasional song refresh.

The other thing to consider with the AMI is that I believe you can use SD cards (there are sockets behind the Navigation display, which pops out), which is an even more discrete music storage option if you don't want an iPhone or iPod rattling around.

You can with the AMI lead and bluetooth, you just won't be able to use the cradle to get the external antenna connection
